Ive been playing about a month now and Im constantly learning new things but I thought maybe Id make a post and see what people thought new players should know. Maybe something that took you awhile to understand?

what area are you in, what pets are you using, and in what party order (list them slot 1/ slot 2/ slot 3, and you can link by grabbing their pet page url and either just pasting that and highlighting+using the URL button to put tags around it, or writing text like the pet names, highlighting it and using the URL= button and putting the url in the popup, it'll save me/anyone else a little time)

Because major things that people have trouble with is, indeed... party setup- what elements do what best, what proficiencies are best for what, what equipment

I'd definitely suggest checking out the Player Guides section of the forums, too.
If you need to make gold, there's a guide that should help, along with the guide to mission pets and missions (missions are top-tier revenue generator, so learning how best to do them is a good idea)

Okay, so, point 1:
slot 1 (middle of the screen in battle, the leftmost pet on the party select) is the pet who should be the tank pet- Typically Shadow, Earth, or Water, sometimes Light. This is because that is the slot enemies tend to aim for the most. So you want Mykalas there, since he's shadow

2:
If you're having trouble with battles, you might want to try a more typical party setup- Tank/healer/attacker
I already listed the Tank elements, Healers are Light, but Water can also be used as a Buffer, although it doesn't really get good at it until later levels. Fire and Air are the Attacker elements.
So, you might want to swap Nyroboro from Fire to Light? (since she's already a Magic-type element)

3:
their equips,,, OOF
Okay, so elements come in two types: Magical and Physical
Shadow, Light, and Fire are the Magical elements
Earth, Water, and Air are the Physical elements

Magic elements use the Magical Damage Stat to calculate their moves' outputs, and don't use the Physical Damage stat at all
Physical elements are the opposite, using only the Physical Damage stat and not the Magical.

The Damage stats are controlled by two things: Their Intelligence and Strength stat, and their Relic Bonus

So, on a Magical element you want equipment that focuses on the Intelligence stat, and on a Physical element you want equips that focus on the Strength stat
Under level 60, there's 4 main equip types, and some others (and the 1-off/non-set equips like Elora's Superior Bracet)

These types are
Illusionist - Int/Agi
Evoker - Int/Dex
Assassin - Str/Agi
Myrmidon - Str/Dex

So, how to pick which of these for a pet?
Pet element and its Party position/job

A Tank pet needs Agility, because Agility controls a pet's Evasion and Defence stats
Attackers want Dexterity, because Dex controls Accuracy and Critical Hit chances
Healers and Buffers generally also get Dex-type equips, since they don't need the evasion or defence like a tank does, and can use the higher accuracy and crit rate, but they can mix-n-match some

So, Shadow or Light Tanks get Illusionist
Earth or Water Tanks get Assassin
Light Healers and Fire Attackers get Evoker
Air Attackers and Water Tanks get Myrmidon

So you want Illusionist for Mykalas, Evoker for Nyroboro, and Myrmidon for Nyxtara

4:
Still on equipment, both an equip's level and rarity affect the stats. You should ALWAYS endeavor to not have uncommon equips on your team because the only thing they're better than is absolutely nothing. They're awful. A lv65 uncommon is barely a match to a lv25 legendary equip.

Since your team is lv30-40, you might want to see about getting lv25 legendary equips for them- those are typically fairly easy to find on the broker since they're a possible drop from lv25 very hard mission satchels. (they aren't strictly the BEST your team could be using, but they are the easiest to obtain, and probably the cheapest, though you could try looking for epic/legendary rarity lv30/35/40 equips on the broker too. There's other equips that would be good, but those aren't easy to get- notable ones are the lv26 equip sets sold in Sanctuary of Saerielle's Town Hall, which are extremely good relative to their level and rarity, but which you need an extremely high city reputation to buy, are fairly expensive, and cannot be traded (likewise for the lv0 equips sold in Esior's Town Hall))

Of the three pets, only Nyxtara has a Relic that boosts the correct Offensive stat for her element, and Mykalas's equips are just. how to say. Tragic. All Uncommons, all more than 15 levels lower than him, and only one boosts his Int stat at all.

5:
Proficiencies
Tank pets generally get some combo of HP, Offense, and Agility profs- it depends on the player, and the pet (eg, pet with lower HP might need an HP prof where one with higher base HP wouldn't, some people like higher move output where some like higher agility).
HP for tanking big blows, Offense for the move outputs (eg, shadow, more damage in an attack means a higher draining debuff strength/better healing), Agility for Evasion to dodge incoming attacks and for higher defence.

Attackers and Healers/Buffers almost always go all-in on Offense and Dexterity, though Air and Fire pets might get Dex profs earlier than the others because their base attacks inflict their debuffs based on crits. Some people do put an HP point on non-tanks, but it's not the norm, and non-tanks pretty much never need the extra HP.

As a heads-up, both agility and dexterity control a pet's speed equally. 300 dex+100 agi gives the same base speed as 200 dex+200 agi or 100 dex+300 agi.

Mykalas also only has 1 of his prof points assigned.

We can clarify anything if needed (I'd offer some of my pets as examples of setup but my teams are either over lv60 and thus not using the same equip sets as the ones listed here, or are Battle Board teams, which do not follow the typical tank/healer/attacker setup, though we could show some if you'd like examples of prof setups)
