You cannot actually add your third party slot until you've reached the second region and gained access to Sanctuary of Saerielle (since that's where you buy it)
Trapping sylesti does work somewhat like pokemon, if one compares green-tier traps to pokeballs, blue to greatballs, and purple to ultraballs (and the red master snares to the masterball), with the difference that lower-tier traps cannot catch higher-rarity pets than the trap (so you can catch an Uncommon sylesti with any trap, but need a purple to catch an epic). Lowering their hp does improve the chances somewhat, though there's always the chance (except with the instant-success master snare) that the sylesti will flee
(at least up until the lost grove, which uses a different system and has its own traps, and sylesti get stronger with each failed attempt instead of fleeing)
Breeding sylesti just requires both pets to be the same species, different genders, and both adults.
You may wish to learn more about how sylesti inheritance works (namely stat and trait inheritance) before breeding.
Briefly, stats are inherited by taking parent a's stat, and parent b's stat, and randomly picking a number between (so if P.a's str is 12 and p.b's str is 20, then offspring can have a str of 12-20, so baby1 might get str12, baby2 str 18, baby3 str 15 etc.)
Stats can be raised at hatching so long as the egg isn't left so long it autohatches (24h after it first hits 72h)- going to the egg's page gets a popup with the options (paraphrasing) "help hatch" (gives +20hp), "don't help" (randomly gives +1 to one of str, int, dex, or agi), or "use philter" (select a philter that you have in your inventory from the dropdown above the button. Boost will be according to what the philter is)
While a sylesti is a hatchling, it will get +1 to its lowest stat for every 8 nurtures it receives.
Once a hatchling hits adolescence it cannot gain any more stats
Traits work based on Punnett Square genetics- each trait slot has two letters, first one representing the dominant 'visible', second the more recessive, non-visible trait (trait dominant to recessive goes down the alphabet (save N, which stands for 'Nothing'), and is most dominant, then A > B > C > etc.)
More here (post 10)
Buying sylesti, you generally use Advanced Search, where you can select species, traits etc. (post 11 in the above linked thread has a guide to advanced search, minorly out of date). This is generally the easiest and fastest method of getting good sylesti that you like the look of and/or have good stats
Generator, you need a generator essence, see this guide
Something that might help you in progressing is upgrading your pets' equips
Both equip level and rarity affect how good the equip is, and what element and party position a pet has affects what kind of equip will be best for it
Carl is an Earth pet, and should be in slot 1 of the party, as a Tank element
She should have Assassin gear preferably, to boost her Strength and Agility (agility controls evasion and defence)
Bugsy is an air pet, an attacker.
He should have Myrmidon gear, for strength and Dexterity (dex controls accuracy and crit chance)
(agi and dex share speed equally)
(this guide has a rundown on typical element setups and what equip type goes to what)
It might be a bit tricky to get lv15 gear. My recommendation is to read the guide to mission pets and missions
Then you can go to the Esior's Haven Barracks and send pets on missions that they'll do well on, in order to get the rewards (you can see some info on that here)
You can also unlock more mission slots until you have six total via the esior's haven sylesti plaza, so you can be running more missions at once.
Missions will net your sylesti exp, and mission satchels can drop equipment (equal in level to the mission, and primarily of the rarity that matches the mission's difficulty) that you can potentially either use or sell (along with gold and healing items. |
