it's a letter replacement cypher. Each letter correlates to a specific symbol, and the symbols on the lower half are a direct conversion of the complete text, with the top text being the same text but with some letters erased to form the puzzle.
So here's the first word:
and here's the set of symbols that correlates to it in the cypher text:
the missing letter is the one that is this symbol:
The word itself is "This" (only so many words that fit the "T_is" after all), so now you know that all instances of the symbol in the cypher are the letter 'H', so you can go through and find others, such as the third word 'T_ _', which then becomes 'Th_'

They're just screenshots of:
1: image of the first word from the top version of the cypher
"T_IS"
2: image of first word from second version of cypher (roughly identified:)
"sorta scorpion looking symbol" "+ sign with circles on each of the tips" "sideways A' looking symbol" "vertical zigzag looking squiggle"
3 and 4: Images of the second letter from the second version of the cypher, the "+ sign with circles on each of the tips"
