According to other players, the part where you're supposed to catch a wild sylesti was where you were going to learn to skip. I caught the sylesti without skipping. Now all my turns at trollsblight caverns battles are skips and the game won't let me do anything else until I lose.

I'm... not sure I understand what you mean? Learn to skip? Skip... turns? or avoid battles? I assume one of these things?
I don't think either of those things is part of the tutorial? I DO think I definitely need more information about what exactly the issue is to be able to help. What are you seeing on the screen? What are you clicking? Can you describe it or provide screenshots?
(also, do make sure to assign Lapine's proficiency point, and get him some Evoker gear to buff his Intelligence and Dexterity when you can)

Thanks for trying to help. So when I press Current's(my starter) first attack it is yellow and nothing changes, however, when I press the skip button, it goes onto Lapine's turn. Then I have to press the skip button(you can't press anything else, it doesn't click) and press end turn. That's the only thing I can do until I die! And then I heal, and then I try to attempt another battle and the process repeats itself!

(P.S, If you know how to make a pet age to adult, please inform of it!)

I think I may see your problem; are you selecting the target for your pet's attack (by clicking them)? You only mentioned selecting the move (yellow icon)- when the target is selected, the move icon should turn green and it should automatically move to the next pet.
Skip has no need for you to select a target since it's a non-action, but attacks like Bolt and Beam need you to select which enemy you are attacking with the move
(Moves that hit all enemies or your whole team 'autoselect' the target, since it's 'all', and some moves like Ice Barrier and Regenerate require you to select which pet you're protecting/healing (at least in later areas? I think if you don't select the target for those party-affecting moves in regions 1 and 2 they autoselect their user?))
Pets age up from eggling to hatchling at 72 maturity hours, hatchling to adolescent at 216mh, and adolescent to adult at 648mh
(for a newly bred eggling if none of the following apply, that's 3 days as eggling, 6 as hatchling, and 18 as adolescent, totaling 27 days)
Maturity hours don't coincide precisely with 'time pet has existed' hence it having a separate term.
Pets gain 1mh per hour, but this can be altered by the following:
- Egglings gain 1mh bonus per 6 correct nurtures
- Hatchlings gain 1mh bonus per 4 correct nurtures (to balance them getting +1 to their lowest stat every 8 correct nurtures)
- Adolescents can gain +144mh if a magical pie is used on them (skipping 6 days of growth time. They can have a max of two used, limited because the maturity boost+the cooldown after use, which is 72h/3 days)
In pets that have been genetically tested or created via the generator (including starters) you can see their exact mh- looking at Current's age in her profile:
Birthday: 11-16-2022 03:41:41AM
Age: 12 Days
Maturity: Adolescent (526/648)
Since she was made in the generator, being a starter, she started life as a new adolescent- 216mh. She is currently 526mh.
648 - 526 = 122
122 / 24 = 5.08.
So she has a little over five days until she hits adulthood
