I bought 10 traps yesterday, spent all my gold on them, and used them all on a critter which I did not catch ><
Is there a good way to make money as a brand new player? I want to get my 3rd party member slot and be able to capture more wild critters. I need some critters to do town missions.

There's also the early-area farming method which is slow but steady (running repeatedly through an area you've cleared just grabbing all the chests


Missions are, indeed, generally the easiest source of steady income, especially once you have all six mission slots unlocked (bought from the sylesti plaza) and a good set of dedicated mission pets.

Since you're early on, probably best to not use too much of your money on traps/catching wild sylesti; wild sylesti just have the lowest possible stats in the game
(though of course I understand that sometimes you just come across some random wild who is just Very Pretty, that's just a true fact (I have a whole stable just for them, because some you just can't bear to kill))

For the most part it's easier and cheaper to get pets via buying them from other players if you need more for something

To get pets from other players, you'll want to use the Advanced Search
> Search pets
> select a species if you have any preference, along with any other details
> For sale dropdown: Yes
> Order by dropdown: "Price (for sale)" "Ascending"

There are a lot of pets that are for sale for a lower price than a single trap, so you'll save a lot of money getting mission pets this way
