I'll assume you mean an avatar outfit rather than a pet costume

> Go to wardrobe, into the items section
> on the left side of the wardrobe options, there's a green < arrow, and next to it are a green tick box button which tells it whether to show you the items you own, and below it is a greyed out strikethrough button which tells it whether to show you items you don't own.

>You can either click the greyed out strikethrough once to disable the Items You Own button and enable Items you Don't Own, click it again to enable both
Or you can click the Items you Own directly to show both


Basically, if the Tick is highlighted, you will be shown items you own, if it's greyed, you will not see items you own
If the strikethrough is highlighted, you will be shown items you don't own, and if it's greyed, you won't.

You can then just click items that it shows you to preview on your avatar per usual, though you cannot save/wear an outfit that contains something you don't own
