Welcome to Sylestia!!

You do missions by going to Esior's Haven (or, when you move on, just the town part of an area) and then going to the Barracks. There, you can find missions to send your pets on. (be aware, the pets in your party cannot do missions) If you want to unlock more missions spots (you can get up to six) go to the Sylesti Plaza and scroll down; you'll see an area to pay for more mission spots. (believe it says expand mission max or something?)

As for scale shop prices, they mean the amount of traits a pet will have. More scales means your pet will have more traits. (They might be carries though) Generally, eggs above 1900 are legendary, and will have the most traits. For a good look at the odds, I reccomend checking out this thread.

Once again, welcome to Sylestia!! If there's anything you need, or you have more questions, feel free to ping me using the @ button at the bottom right of this page. (this notifys me that you're replied)

just adding to the previous post,
there's also a condensed list of scale shop price/egg TP count at the top of page 4 of the thread Fireflick linked that is easier to eyeball and doesn't require scrolling

Missions
> Go to Esior's Haven Barracks, select the 'more info' button. Take note of what the emphasized stat is.

> you buy access to more mission slots (as mentioned, up to six) at the Esior's Haven Plaza

> I believe? that higher level missions may be locked by town reputation? I'm not sure if that's something I'm remembering right? If it is the case, you can get town reputation by successfully completing missions.

> I suggest checking out the Guide to Mission Pets and Missions- It's a good idea to have at least one or two pets set up for each of the five stats for missions (once you have the space).

> There are four outcomes for missions, Fail, Poor completion, Satisfactory completion, and Exceptional.
Fail gives no reward, Poor gives half the base payout and no mission satchels, Satisfactory gives base payout and one satchel, and exceptional gives double and two satchels. You can see more on the mission payouts here

Using pets that are set up with proficiencies and equips for a specific stat will give them a much better chance at a good outcome in that type of mission. Using pets of a much higher level will also raise the chance (since fail/success is a range based around the stats of pets of the level required for that mission) You can send pets of a higher level than your user level on missions (user level only restricts what you can use on your battle party)
