I'm new-ish to this and have just really played to level up and just came back from a long break. How do you do this?

Hey!!

You click on the pet you want to price, and then click the 'manage pet' button on their profile. There you can price them for breeding, sale, or both.

No no no, I meant, how do I know how much to sell them for? I know how to sell them, I just don't know how to tell what they are worth.

it depends on the pet- Species, Stats, Traits, Theme, Project- all of these together control values

Species,
Some species are more popular, some less, and more popular ones will have a better chance at selling at a higher price, but the price range is controlled by the other points

Stats,
low stats add nothing to the price, medium stats- ~50s- will add some, high stats- ~80- can add a decent amount. Max stats (2000hp, 200mana, 100str/int/dex/agi) tend to sell ~250k apiece infertile (people tend to be very leery about selling fertile max stats for understandable reasons). Superstats (pets with base stats higher than max because of + stats) also tend to fetch decent prices, varying based on +stat abount. Supermaxes (max stats with + stats) I think? tend to go 500k+, again varying by how high the + stats are)

Traits,
Pets with valuable traits (traits that are very, very recently released, or restricted traits) or nice-looking trait combinations

Theme,
Like with species, some themes aren't worth much, some are worth a lot
If a pet isn't a Themed pet, then it'll generally need to be a

Project
which may or may not be a Theme project. The project might be a max stat project, or a PB theme project, or just a project to get certain traits. You generally want to do an interest check of what your final outcome is intended to be to make sure there'd be people who would pay the money.
Projects are an investment on the player's part, the time and supplies needed such as philters or dyes

> If the pet is a common/uncommon/rare wild-caught pet from regions 1, 2, or 3, it isn't likely to fetch a price that would cover the trap costs. Epics from these areas are also unlikely to cover trap cost.

> randombred unthemeds will generally not fetch a price either, though it can vary (colours and traits in consideration, but randombreds tend to not have the Project Palette quality)

> common/uncommon/unthemed rare from the Lost Grove are also unlikely to sell for much at all, unless the unthemed rare has a visible Lost Grove Restricted Trait and the pet hasn't been bred (meaning the trait can be extracted)

> random epics from the lost grove may or may not fetch a few k, depends on the traits and colours,
> non-Grove legendaries/mythicals may or may not sell, again, traits, colours, vis/non-vis. If you can find an immediate taker in chat, then there's that, otherwise it's weighing the master snare cost vs aesthetics
> Grove legendary/mythical have high + stats and have a decent chance to fetch a good peice, and additionally don't need a master snare to be caught (but it's a balance of how stubborn they are about being caught- they can get very dangerous after just a few failed traps because of their already high stats)

> Themes will depend on demand for that theme. You can generally get a rough idea by looking at the Advanced Search and looking for pets of the theme in question that are for sale.
LG themes of epic+ rarity have a very good chance of selling for high prices, as will popular or rare themes in general

Overall, you might want to look in the Advanced Search for things similar to what you're trying to sell, or in the pet marketplace to get some kind of feel for worth
(and we can all look forward to the day Krin makes and releases the pet broker so we can see the sale trends of themes)

summed up:
Good stats (50+) can get some gold, max stats and supermaxes have high worth, rare themes (such as wild nephini or ferrikki themes), popular themes, and projects (if people like the look) can get high prices.
People will likely also pay good gold for a tamed unbred pet that has a visible Lost Grove Restricted trait

Wild-caught, low-rarity pets will not fetch good prices, if they sell at all
Randombred babies are unlikely to get good prices in most situations, and are generally also unlikely to sell unless they have something in particular going for them

"people tend to be very leery about selling fertile max stats for understandable reasons"
Why?? I've never understood the fertile/infertile thing. Can you explain what's up with that?

it takes a lot of time, gold/diamonds, and dedication to do max(/supermax/ 6vis) stat projects (especially if, as is the usual, it is also a project with a specific set of traits in mind)
you generally need the stable space, philters (stat philters, pies, possibly gender swappers, mutators, dyes, RTDs, trait extractors), possibly scales (nurture boost, scale shop philters/dyes), and the pets/pet essences to start the project.
It takes a fairly long time for pets to reach breeding age, even with pies (and the breeding cooldown also plays in, especially with fabled species, if you get bad luck on rng rolls).

A completed max/supermax project can potentially take literal years to finish (varying by the base stats of the starting stock of the project, and rng during the trait breeding if the goal has specific traits)

People don't like- and generally discourage- selling fertile high/max/supermax project pets because there's always the chance people will steal/undercut the effort the breeder put in.
If a person does that it can potentially drop the worth of their project (and other max/supermax projects of the same species), generally make a bit of a mess of the pet economy, that kind of thing

Hi, I wanted to give it a go at answering that question for you.

It takes months of hard work(It takes multiple generations of pets to create a max stat pet, and that's not accounting for the time it takes to make a pet have full, or nearly full visible traits before working on the max stat aspect), designing, and money to make a max stat, supermax, or superstat pets. These projects require philters of mana, philters of health, prismatic philters, dyes, and more depending on what the vision for the pet outcome is.

If a person were to sell their pets as fertile, the hard work that they spent months if not longer on, could be taken by another person who could change their work for less time and money given the bulk of the work was already done, sell it as their own, and possibly make a higher profit than the original without having had to put in the same effort and money.
All the original seller's hard work would have gone down the drain.

Selling the pets as infertile prevents that from happening and helps to keep value in the pets that so much work had been put into. It also helps to keep max stats from becoming invaluable by being sold at a far too low price given the amount of time it takes to create these pets.

I know this isn't the most in-depth explanation, but I hope it helps to explain why most won't sell their max pets as fertile.
