I looked through the base hairstyles and didn't see any, so if they are they must be an actual avatar item.

uh? i dont fully understand the question but there are actualy 9 pages of base hairstyles avalable but most of them only utilise your hair color. If you are looking for somthing perticular maby show a picture of it, maby i can identify it, otherwhise look in the section head of the avi items while having everything enabled. Hope it help ! ^-^
