Each parent can pass one of their two genes in each trait. A pet has to be genetically tested in order to see their carried traits but a lot of people do free testing on the Groups, Guilds, Clubs, and Services forum.
I'll do an example with only two traits for simplicity (someone correct me if I say anything wrong lol).
Pet 1:
G1: AB (showing A, carrying B)
G2: NC (carrying C)
Pet 2:
G1: AA (showing B, carrying C)
G2: ND (carrying D)
A child of these two is guaranteed to have a visible trait in G1 because both of the parents do. They will get one letter from each parent (I believe it's a 50% chance to get each letter). The child could have:
AA (showing A)
AB (showing A, carrying B) I believe it would be impossible to have BA
The child will also get one letter from each parent in G2, but the letter N always means a blank spot and it always the first gene. Options are:
NN (no trait) N from both parents
ND (carrying D) N from pet 1 and D from pet 2
NC (carrying C) C from pet 1 and N from pet 2
CD (showing C, carrying D) C from pet 1 and D from pet 2. Again, I believe DC is impossible.
I hope this makes sense, but I'll try and find some links and guides to link in case it doesn't.
