this is probably a silly question but I am having a lot of trouble getting enough gold for anything. am I missing a specific method to make more gold, or is it something you just get over time? thanks for any advice guys, I appreciate any help as I get to know this game!!

Hello! I saw your question and struggled with this a lot in the beginning too lol. Some great ways to make gold are to do missions and quests and selling pets!
Missions-In Esior's Haven, you can go to the Town Barracks and go on Missions, you can send pets on missions, where basically you will not have access to your pets for a couple of hours but you will get quite a bit of gold. I recommend getting a high-level pet for missions specifically or having a team of specific mission pets. Quests: as you progress through the game's storyline, you'll be rewarded with more and more gold. I would definitely do the main quest.
Breeding/selling pets: If you have a themed pet that you breed with another one of the same theme, or one with desirable traits, you can sell it for quite a bit!
There are other ways to make gold and guides that are probably way more in-depth then mine but i hope this helps!

I have some jssues going on unckudding a category 4 hurricane which means my doctors are all out of town, leon county fl. sad. anyway i cant gift you back right now and i dont have time to chat, unfortunately, im either prepping for college next semester or asleep, lately. so i just wanted to let you know ill gift you back when i csn friends
