what is that orange thing that keeps getting away when i try to uncover it? do i have to ignore it to get it?

Um, do you have a screen shot/picture? Saying "orange thing" isn't really very descriptive or helpful.
Was this "orange thing" appearing in the text box below the screen that shows the pet(s) that you have battling?
You need to be more descriptive, so I can help you.

If you mean the thing where it says "you've spotted something mysterious ahead" and then you try to uncover it, but you usually just get attacked by things instead of finding it...
Well it's just that. You usually get attacked by bad guys but there is a small chance of finding an abandoned Sylesti.
