Well, in the search and if the pet is tested, there's going to be like an AB or CD kind of thing. The first letter is the visible trait and the second means there's a hidden one and then you can look through the genes/mutations for the second trait. :3
For example:
Yay! I got a griffi with lets say,
Horse tail (stripes) (BL) And
Feathered wings (AD), both having hidden traits. What are the traits? Since horse tail with stripes is the first mutation, we go see the first mutation drop down and see that B is horse tail with stripes and L, the hidden trait, is Dragon tail with stripes! Just do the same with the other mutation :)
Hope I was clear x.x I didn't sleep much last night and I can't get any pictures to show you >.>

Hidden Traits, Im guessing you mean Carried Traits. You can see them when you test it. (Genetic Test)
For example:
<--- This is how you know its tested(Its suppose to be WAYYYY smaller)
Gene One: None
Gene Two: Advanced Runes
Gene Three: None
Mutation One: None
Mutation Two:Spring Flowers <---- This one is written differently, that one is carried, which means you wont see it on this pet, but its babies could have this.
Mutation Three: None
Hope this helps! ^w^ (If it doesn't, Flute might explain it better)

Just to clear everything up for everyone, because both Dauntless and Crystal were right in their own sense.
Sylesti have three forms of traits, Visible, Carried and Hidden.
Visible is easy to explain, its the trait you see. Each trait under each gene and Mutation is given an letter to determine it from the rest (all bar the letter N which just means No Trait. This will however be getting changed in the future as we get closer to the N letter and then the end of the alphabet. Yes I asked Krinadon about this, it is not just speculation.)
When you go to the generator page you can see the order of each gene/mutation to figure out what letter it goes with. The closer to A the more dominant the trait, (But I wont go into dominant and recessive traits here)
(Of course the letters are not shown in the generator)
To find out if a pet had Carried (or hidden) traits, as Dauntless said they must be tested. You can use either a Standard genetic tester, which is a once off, or you can buy (or hunt down a player that does free testing) a exceptional tester, or if you find a pet in the wild that you want to view the traits of before you capture it you can use a Standard or exceptional Scanner.
Once you have tested/scanned your pet, if its a hatchling its profile page will show you what Mutations it will have as an adult, and if its an adult it will show you if the pet Carries any traits. Carried traits are shown as italic compared to visible traits that are just normal.
then you can go to the Advanced search look up the pets ID/Name/Etc.. and there you will find information like this.
See how G1 has (NC) Mantis Shrimp, as said Earlier N means no trait, and the green colouring means carried, so Mantis is a carried trait.
M1 has (CC) Petal Fins, this trait is visible, but it does not hold any other trait below it, hence the CC and the Blue.
M3 is a bit different to M1, where both have a visible trait, M3 also carries another trait underneath the visible, (BD) Angler Lights. B = Angler lights, and if we go back to the generator we see that D = Spooky Fog. this carried trait is often coined a Hidden trait.
Now if you want to see what those Hidden and Carried traits look like, you can chuck all the details into the generator, or if you click and drag the image of the pet into a new Tab you will see something like this.
To view the carried and/or Hidden just Replace the letter in front with the letter needed to view.
&gd1=NC&gd2=NN&gd3=NN&md1=CC&md2=AA&md3=BD
&gd1=CC&gd2=NN&gd3=NN&md1=CC&md2=AA&md3=DD
