I'm looking for a separate site that hosts free customizable chat rooms. ;w;
There was one awhile back that a user made while Sylestia was under maintenance that I liked. It had a basic name, a clean interface (no ads it seemed, or not as blatant), and users can make their own name and customize their own colors that they wanted to chat in without any sort of registration.
I'm looking to find a user that remembers that exact chatroom in the past. xAx it's killing me that I can't remember it lol
Otherwise, other alternatives I'm looking at are:
http://chatstep.com (looks friendly, but can't customize colors, can mute other users, can also use youtube iirc)
http://etherpad.fr (writes in a google doc-like format, not a traditional chatroom)
tinychat (its okay, can use youtube/soundcloud, but can't customize name color; also asks for facebook/registration off the bat; kinda my last resort to use)
https://tlk.io/ (can embed, simple and clean interface! mobile friendly?)
https://chatango.com/ (can embed, customizable chat box for color/size; can allow square avatars and color selection for users; mobile friendly?)
Also, this is for my future chatroom for The Mafia. I'm looking for not-sketchy sites that have ads everywhere or ask for email/facebook or stuff, so its not terrible to use for guild chats. ;w;
http://chatstep.com isn't working for me, if someone can make a sample chatroom, that'd be cool! yay it worked!

Etherpad: https://etherpad.fr/p/mafia
tlk.io: https://tlk.io/mafiasample

Chatstep looks sufficient though https://tlk.io/ is used frequently. It's nice since you can embed it on a page.

I'm pretty sure you are talking about Ventrilo. I remember downloading something to chat to people when Sylestia was down. I used it once and immediately uninstalled.
I personally didn't like Ventrilo. Download required and it looks like you now need to pay for it? Also the interface was horrible IMO. If a download is required you may as well use Skype. I personally like Skype, it's the easiest to use by far...

Eimell: Woah, chatzy's super customizable, thanks! O:
Ffor: Mmm, I wasn't thinking of Ventrilo. But I also didn't like it for the same reasons you did: downloading and using the program wasn't intuitive/friendly. Skype is easier to use for players who already have it, but I also like some of the chatrooms that showed up on this thread (accessible by browser).
I'll end up letting other recruitees decide what browser-based chatroom they'd like to use, as a go-to chatroom if we need one. /will make a post in a bit
