My friend has tried to explain this phenomenon, but I don't get her explanation. The way she explains the flames is that it's carried.

However I look at it if neither parent has a parent/granparent ETC to carry or have it they can't possibly create a baby with flames. The mother is bread from winged parents (essence pet)

Further more the father doesn't have flames either. Looking at it that way I come to the conclusion that my baby has to be a fluke because it has flames from parents that haven't any in their genetic make-up X_x (edit: I mixed the father with the mother's side grandparents)

My friend just keeps going on about it being because they have wings that it can have flames which if you follow the generators is not possible because both are from the same slot...

Pets can have at most 2 traits for each slot. Each is denoted by a letter (A, B, etc).

For the above situation, both Zolnixies must also be carrying Spirit Flames, which is recessive to Butterfly Wings - which is why Butterfly Wings is visible and not Spirit Flames.

The offspring then picked up the Spirit Flame from both parents and thus has visible Spirit Flames.

So, parents were something like AB and AB and the offspring picked up the B from both parents and is now BB.

Someday... when I can, I will update the display of genes so tested pets display this information properly. If the pet is not tested, however, this information won't be revealed.

That's what confuses me because neither of the mother's parents have flames in any way shape form to pass on O.o

They are not tested. Get them tested and you can view their image to see their exact genetics. You will see that it will say "AB" for md2.

The mother's mother had visible Spirit Flames. The mother's father carried Butterfly Wings. So the mother ended up being AB which is visible Butterfly Wings, but carries Spirit Flames.

The father is a captured pet so it can be anything - it obviously is also AB, which is visible Butterfly Wings, but carries Spirit Flames.

Their offspring then could have been AA, AB, AB, or BB. And this specific offspring is BB.
