I'm Hikari Mino. Yes, Hikari. My name literally means "Radiant". So it's kinda weird how my biyu-sen name ended up as "Flaming Star."
And it makes things even more complicated. I started off as an ordinary girl with normal friends. Ok, maybe I am a tad rich but...you get what I mean.
*******************
I rushed downstairs, eager to work on my newest project.
Sun, my newest invention sat on my work table.
"Hey bud," I said, "You're almost done." Yeah, almost done alright. But inside, I knew he'd never be 'done'. I wanted to make him move, but I couldn't...as good as he looked, he was just a model. A non-animate decoration. A scrap of metal.
I let out a heavy sigh. If only he were living, what a good friend he'd make. As I tinkered with the pieces I lost myself in the vast expanse of thought. If only...if only...Sun were living. My biggest wish.
Fast forward to a few hours later.
After I finished my project I went outside to get some fresh air. I trudged my way through the grass until I came to a halt at the cave. My cave, it was where I liked to think. No one could disturb me here...or so I thought.
"I can," a booming voice said, " I can make Sun alive."
"who's there?" I called out.
A fiery spirit thing came towards me. I stood taller. I was no coward.
"Me."
"Yeah, no kidding."
The spirit just floated there. "Do you want me to make Sun alive? And will you pay the cost?"
"Umm....what cost?"
"Decide now...or never." His eyes bore into mine, and stared deep into my soul, searching, digging for an answer, a flicker of doubt.

Second part:
"Yes, fine, whatever. Make Sun alive, you phony, and I'll pay the cost." I said, rolling my eyes.
He looked at me solemnly. "Thank you" he whispered.
All of the sudden, he let out an agonizing screech. Then slowly, he shrunk. His glowy eyes oozed and melted and a cloud of bright, yellow leaked out of his mouth...and then he was gone.
What I didn't know was that he has sacrificed his life to Sun. A life for a life.
And the cost was deadly. By agreeing to the spirit's terms I had set myself up for immense danger.
In a flash, something came whooshing by me. It stopped in front of my feet. It was the size of Sun, and the same color, and the same eyes...and a few clouds here and there. I took a second look. I inhaled a quick, sharp breath and realized that it was Sun. My happiness was short lived though.
The new and improved Sun pricked his ears and growled. He stood his ground in front of me, protecting me. I held my breath, willing myself to remain silent. I distracted myself by counting to the beat of my rapidly-pumping heart. one, two, one, two... faster, one, two, one, two, one, two... then the suspense ended. A shadow leaped at me.
The creature was huge, and I had no idea what the thing was. I knew about all animals, but this one...no. And he wasn't normal either. He puffed out smoke and glared hatred at me.
He was going to kill me.
The realization had me planted to the ground. He pounced, I instinctively shielded me face with my arms. But Sun was even faster. My little friend ran in tight circles around me, enveloping me in clouds. And then...light.
The light warmed me for what felt like eternity. The next thing I knew, I was flying in the light, with Sun. He winked at me and I allowed myself a small smile. I must be dead, Sun's here and I'm in light, what other explanation is there? Is this the cost?
No, it was not.
Sun gracefully flung off his color and caught it in his paw. As if someone else was controlling my body, a ribbon appeared in my hands. I tied it around my hair and Sun spun his collar-gemstone around it. My hair grew and became much lighter in color, a nice shade of orange.
He backed away from me, and the gem shot out a powdery, sparkly substance.
My skirt and cardigan melted together, until the dress was completely transformed. My boots went through the same process.
A searing pain flashed through my back. Wings. Big, beautiful, white, feathery wings were attached to my back. I folded them behind me and elegantly landed on the ground.
"Your dark aura will never swallow the light that shines through me." I had no idea what I was doing, and I begged myself to stop before I made it really, really mad.
"Say hello to your worst enemy." Crap. Now I've really done it. Shut up!
"Guardian of the Heavenly Lands,Beau-Senshi, Flaming Star!"

And what did I do after this big show? I ran, faster than I ever have in my entire life. I spread my wings and fly. The creature had wings too. It could fly too. It gave chase.
"AHHHHHHHHH! GET AWAY FROM ME YOU CREEP!"
Sun came zooming after me. "Wait! Flaming Star, wait!" The voice came from my beloved Sun.
"You-y-y can talk?" I asked
"Yes!" he snapped. I broke down in tears, all my fear and confusion came spilling out.
"What? You never told me! This is all so frickin' confusing! What the heck is going on?"
The strong flapping of my wings dried out my tear-streaked face.
Sun looked at me directly in the eyes. "Go back and fight him. That's what you're meant to do."
I couldn't talk, "Wha-wh-how..... NO!" I stammered. "I'm not risking my life until I know what's going on!!!"
He closed his eyes. "Very well."
"Long ago existed a very beautiful land, known as the Heavenly Lands. Everything was perfect. The queen was breathtakingly beautiful too. Her husband, the King, as well. But, as you know, nothing is immortal. The queen grew old, her vibrant her dulled in color, her sight became worse and worse. It was time for her to chose a successor." He paused as if he was collecting his thoughts then continued.
"She chose a creature known as Spirit."
"Spirit?"
"Yes, the fiery cat. The one who allowed me to have life."
"...oh."
"Yeah. Spirit was a strong ruler and cared much for his subjects. But to have happiness, you must pay. After many years, Spirit's brother aroused. Icy. Now, Icy was spiteful and extremely jealous of Spirit. Icy had a dark heart and soul. When Icy asked Spirit if they could rule as joint leaders, Spirit refused. See, Spirit knew that Icy would eventually claim all the power to himself and destroy everything. They had one more year of peace before Icy overtook Spirit's throne. Icy turned everyone into his own personal servants. The land became dark and dead, just as Icy had ordered. There was nothing Spirit could do by himself."
Sun took a deep breath.
"And thus, he began his long journey. He searched for the Beau-Senshi, the girl who could stop the evil. The only hope. When Spirit saw you, he knew you were the one. He sacrificed his life so that his subjects might have a chance at life. The only way you can transform is through me. Through his power. That's why he had to sacrifice himself. I know you're thinking 'why couldn't he have just helped me transform himself?' Well, the transformation only works between friends. He needed you immediately. He didn't have time to become friends with you. And plus, you need a partner to help you."
I licked my lips nervously. "What about the monsters?" I risked a glance backward to see the hideous creature still on my trail.
He hesitated for a moment, "Icy created them to stall you, he doesn't want you to reach him, if you defeat Icy, you defeat the evil. They're called the Kowaii"
"...oh. Wait, one question, how do you you know all of this?"
"Err...honestly, IDK."
"Ooookay then."
"Now, back to business. Defeat it!"
"Wha..? How?!"
"Just fight. Kick, punch. Then use your power once its tired."
"I guess I'll try."
"Good, now get to it!"

I stopped flying and swooped to the ground. The creature followed.
I am so dead.
"FIGHT!" Sun yelled at me. ""If you don't I will!"
I remained planted.
Sun rushed toward the Kowaii. The Kowaii slapped tiny Sun and sent him flying at breakneck speed.
"No." I gasped. "SUN!"
I raced over to his broken body. "Sun," I whispered. "Sun?"
He faintly smiled at me. "I'm okay...Flaming Star" he grunted . "It takes a lot to kill me."
I breathed a sigh of relief.
"Now, go and defeat it already."
"Ok, yes, I will."
"Goood, cause it's right behind you."
"WHA-?" I turned around to see it looming behind me.
I couldn't escape, it would crush Sun. In pure terror, I jumped as high as I could. I soared well above the tree tops, with one leg out, I landed hard on its back. It was by far the hardest I had ever kicked something up until that point. I marveled at the power of my strength.
I was no longer scared.
Exhilarated, I punched and kicked the Kowaii, who now looked confused and defeated. He fell back with a loud thud. I laughed.
"Flaming Star!" I spun on my heel to see Sun walking towards me. "Use your power now!"
I didn't even question...somehow I just knew what he meant.
I took three steps toward the figure. I looked at he ground and closed my eyes.
"Beau-Senshi!" I lifted my head and stuck my right arm out. "Fiery Sword!" A small fire orb appeared in the palm of my hand and grew into a sword.
I struck the ground with my new weapon and used to fling myself into the air. Sword in hand, I pinpointed where the heart should be and the sword sunk deep into its chest. In a blinding flash of light, it was gone.
***********************
I don't know when this will end, and it's weird to say...but when it does end, I'll miss it. But I've a lot ahead of me, their world is still at stake.
I'm busier than ever though.
There are more Beau-Sens to be found. I'm not the only one.
