The Joy of Designing: A Pet Design Contest

Hello All ~
With the help of a great many Sylestia users very hard work and generous donations, the Sylestia Discord is proud to present to you The Joy of Designing: A Pet Design Contest which features a grand total of over 40 million gold in prizes.

This will be a lengthy contest that takes place over the course of around 6 months. The first round is integrated into the application process. All applications will be PMed to designated moderators for the first round not Me (BobRoss). If you want to apply leave a comment below and the moderator you need to PM your application to will be assigned to you. From that point, the moderators will send me the application without usernames and I will blindly pick the top 25 applicants to participate. Please, please, please do not mail them to me for the first round or it will ruin the blind vote.

All subsequent rounds will be subject to a public vote and eliminate two contestants until only five remain. Each round will consist of a week to work on and submit designs and a week for blind public voting meaning your user name will not be attached to the design until the results are revealed. Please do not reveal your designs publicly to anyone on Sylestia even friends! Anyone who breaks this rule will be eliminated. The final round will feature our last 5 contestants and be subject to public vote to determine our winner.


On a more personal note, I encourage every Sylestia player to apply regardless of where they feel their design skills fall as long as they feel they have the time to dedicate to this contest. (: This is opportunity for you to learn as well as receive feedback about designs from the community as a whole.

The Application

If you want to apply please leave a comment below to be assigned the moderator you need to send your application to. Submit all designs with the generator links at a size of 250. You will need to use a different species for each design and list the design number with the design!

Design 1: Create a new personal design with any number of traits which you feel reflects your design skills, list what you think the strengths and weaknesses of the design are - its important to know where youd like to improve. Please include a male and female, a name for the design, and any references you may have used!
Design 2: Find an already existing pet you do not own that has 3 to 6 visible traits carries dont matter. Create a potential dye plan for the pet. Please provide a link to the pet and what the final dye product would look like!
Design 3: Take any existing theme design analyze and then modify it. (List what you modified and why you felt this change was necessary.) Please list a before and after picture any number of traits is allowed but use the same traits in both pictures!

Strengths: Incorporating a wider array of browns allows for better contrast and a teal accent color helps give the design more depth and life. I also chose to use icicle wings to accommodate some of my earlier color choices. These wings have a great balance of dark/light accent colors.

Weaknesses: The G2 I chose, gives the male's tail nice shading, but covers up a lot of the G1 on the female's tail. Because I chose a very light yellow very the A1, butterfly wings feel out of place on this design despite having used the other butterfly traits.

Design 3: Eventide Aeridini (Original/New)



Changes: I have made the blues more vibrant as well as lighter and darker in order to provide more contrast. I swapped the darker golds for a burnt orange to add an additional accent and give it more contrast. The end result has a lot more variation and life than the original theme.
