Recently I've been getting some odd results from test breedings, such as test results showing markings which are only carried by one pet, or showing markings which neither pet carries! Is it normally this crazy with it's predictions?
For example I test bred two draeyls one with vis runes, one with vis wings, the generator showed possible babies as having spots, and it did this several times. It did something similar when I tested two zolnixis, one carried tribal stripes, and one didn't have them at all, but it still kept showing that some of the babies would have tribal stripes. *confused*
Anyone else getting this? I mean if I understand what I've read about breeding correctly then, if only one parent carries a mutation it can never be visible on the offspring, is that correct?

so mutations can jump a generation then? What about with caught pets?

i don't know about with caught pets, but yes, mutations can skip generations! I have a few Zolnixi who were bred with one of mine who has the lifelines trait. None of the kids have the trait, carried or visible. But, if I test breed 2 of them, occasionally it will show up!

Actually, it's not so much the traits skipping a generation as it is being carried under the visible trait, or even under the carried trait, in the slot. Take for instance this girl that I bred:
Her mother shows Back Spikes, and her father shows Crystalline Gems, both of which are in mutation one. Yet almost all their children end up with visible Battle Armor. This is because her, mother, Averyl, carries Battle Armor underneath her Back Spikes. When a pet is genetically tested, you can look for this by opening the link of the pet's imagine in a new tab.
The highlighted blue part shows AB, meaning she shows one trait and carries another, A being a dominant Back Spikes and B being a recessive Battle Armor. The N in other slots stands for None, NN being nothing carried nothing shown, and NA/NB being something carried and nothing shown.

Wow! Breeding is so much more complex than I thought, and even more exciting with such unexpected possible results. Thanks for the info.
