What are trait points and how do I get them? Also what is essence and how do I get that?

Trait points are how many traits you can assign in the pet generator. A carried trait costs 1 point, and a visible trait will cost 2. An essence lets you generate a pet (for instance, a sylvorpa essence will let you generate a sylvorpa), and they come in different rarities- regular to mystical. A regular essence will let you generate a pet with 2 trait points, an enhanced will allow 4, and so on. :)

You can buy essences in the diamond shop, as well as find them through nurturing hatchlings and battling sylesties.

You can't really "get" trait points- Essences have a fixed amount that you can use, and you can't alter the amount of TP that offspring and Exclusive pets have.

The only pets where you can add TP is Tamed pets, if you use a Mutator (4 kinds- Lesser Genetic, Greater Genetic, Lovely, and Lucky) You can scroll down to the Mutators section here if you want a more in-depth breakdown.
