Well it realy depend on what you want to do with breeding, there are various way to breed and those will give you differents results. I am assuming that you are aiming for breeding traits and not stat since those can be expencive. Those two guides should help you understand in dept how to breed for traits and how to select the pairing for a specific outcome.^-^
To start, I would make sure you have lots of stable space because breeding projects of any kind take up a lot of space!

If you need gold to do it, some people give away gold to new players in the forum and doing missions in the towns on the map also brings in a lot of income :)
