I used a lesser genetic mutator on one of my pets, but nothing changed. It was suggested to use a genetic tester, to see if it is a carried trait, but I have no idea where to get one? any help, please and thank you!

Its likely thats what it is, as its one of two possible outcomes (the other being a random visible trait; I suppose its possible to not get either, though). Nods Anyway, you dont necessarily have to buy a genetic testing kit yourself. Other users would be happy to do it for free. Heres one thread: https://www.sylestia.com/forums/?thread=75192.

It is not possible to not get anything from a genetic mutator. A Mutator will always add a trait.
With Greater genetic mutators, you can choose what trait slot and what exact trait (unless you are a- trying to put a trait in an already occupied slot, or b- you're trying to choose a Restricted trait, which isn't an option (unless you're specifically using the Valentines Lace or Lucky Dust Mutators which can add their respective trait))
With Lessers, the trait added is a completely random trait, either visible or carried, to an empty slot.
Unfortunately about the only way to get regular gene testers and regular gene scanners is basically from the Advent Calendar or the Newbie Pack (it is,,, incredibly silly)
It used to be that they were available as a common consolation prize from the Festival wheels, but then the fest wheel was retired.
So now the option is basically to save up for the Infinite genetic test kit and scanner (absolutely worth it, though I'd say, once you get the chance get the scanner first since other people can't scan in-battle enemies for you)
As mentioned by Earthprotector, though, there are plenty of threads made by people willing to gene test other people's pets in the Groups, Guilds, Clubs, and Services forum
