I am rather confused with the genetic testing feature. Are the genes of a pet automatically revealed at adulthood? I didn't think so, but I have some pets with their traits listed, my starter pet, for example, which does not surprise me, since I created it, but also at least one other pet with genes / mutations that it carries (but does not express), but I have not tested either of them. How does the testing work? Would more information show some where in my pet's profile so that I would definitely know their genotype / phenotypes?
I apologize if I have not phrased this well, my only excuse is being tired, and held hostage by a head-cold! I am hoping someone wiser and more experienced might be able to set me straighten here!
Thanks!!

OK, so the two pets I mentioned were both generated, so I can assume that is why the traits show right? (even just the carried rather than expressed traits) I am guessing that the game just naturally lists any visible traits, simply because they are obvious and don't need to be tested for (the testing really just shows you anything else they carry right? That said, carried traits look like they are in italic print while expressed traits are in normal print. I might just figure this thing out yet!

You have tot est a pet to find out if it has carries. The only exception is generated pets. Pets that are generated automatically show you what they have. Their children, however, will need to be tested.
Also, pets can hide recessive traits underneath a visible, but those can also only be seen by testing. (To find them, you have to right click and get the image url from the image of the pet. There is a forum thread that teaches about this somewhere, so I'm not going to say how to tell. If you want to know, i suggest looking around for that guide. I think it is in player guides somewhere.)
Also, once a pet is tested, it is tested forever. So even if you sell the pet, it will still be tested.
Another thing: if you use a mutator on a pet that is not tested, you will not be able to see a gained carried. You wil have to test it to find out what it got if it was not visible.

(You wrote the second post as i was typing XD So this is a response to that one)
You are correct. Generated pets automatically list what they were generated with, caried or visible.
a carried gene will appear under the gene's section as italic print, whereas a visible will show up in regular print. A hidden/recessive gene will not appear on the profile, but will have to be looked for in the image url.
A visible trait will always appear in the gene section of a pet's page, but carried and recessive cannot be seenw ithout testing.
