I'm interested in starting a game in the RP Games section but I don't know how skills work. I've played several and most have you allot skill points to various traits but I'm not sure how best to use them to calculate the difficulty of actions and create dynamic characters.
Is anyone with experience or ideas willing too share what they've done?

Oh man, what a loaded question. The answer is, there is no one single way to create skills in an RP. It's entirely up to you. The system you decide to use is going to heavily depend on whatever type of game/story you want to play/tell. On one hand, you could create complex characters with multiple skill traits a la D&D and other tabletop games. On the other, you could do something as simple as giving each character a single number to represent their strength. Or, I suppose, just create a roleplay without any skill points.

I wanted to run a warrior cats RP. So you're a cat and you have to hunt and fight and it doesn't need to be complicated but I need a way to figure out results. Any particular suggestions on how to work it?

If you're insistent on making it quantitative, something simple like a single level might work. A level 5 cat can take down a level 5 and below rat or something like that. Personally, I think things are more interesting if battles are left mostly up to the players. If you're just running a small RP with few characters then there isn't much need for levels or skills of any sort. Let the players play their characters and interactions and decide the outcomes based on things like their creativity and how well they play their character.
