I am thinking of writing a utility program for myself to help with playing, but I'm not sure if it's allowed.
I looked through the TOS and didn't see anything there, so I figured better be safe than sorry and ask!

Basically the program would allow me to input an image url for a sylestia pet and it would generate the image and parse the url to display the info about colors and genes in a more user-friendly way (perfect for design contests!) It would also contain a generator much like the one on site that could be set using a url. Finally it may include a breeding predictor of sorts that will show a possible breeding between two pet's urls. The last one would be me guessing at the algorithm running behind the scenes and so may not be particularly accurate, but hey :)

Would writing this utility for myself be considered cheating or copyright infringement?

It's hard to say just from the paragraph description if it would, or wouldn't, break our Terms of Service. This is the rule you need to be careful of, under section I. Rules of Conduct:

G. You may not use any type of cheat, script, hack, or anything that is designed to play the Site for you or give you an unfair advantage.

If it's just a simple URL parser that grabs the information and puts it into an organized manner, I don't see that being an issue.

As far as the breeding portion, if it's just like our breeding generator currently on site, I also don't see it being an issue. But we do plan on improving and enhancing the breeding generator in the future - just as a warning if you are attempting to create something like the jwebgen for PonyIsland.

As for the Copyright issues, if you use anything Sylestia (names, logos, images, content, etc), and it's not just for personal use - that would be an infringement. Meaning, if you create a site called "sylestiagenerator.com" and sell your program, or use ads, etc and use our name/logo/images/content, we would have to ask you to remove your Site.

But if this is something you just want for yourself or a few friends, it'd be fine.
