Okay, so... It has been suggested to me that I should try selling a fairly rare item I have. Now, I don't mind the suggestion at all. However, after scouring the trade broker for anything like these sorts of items, I have been forced to conclude I might be better off selling it as an auction.

Thus my current dilemma: How do I auction off an item in the first place? Also, how do I auction off this item in a way that is fair to everyone? I don't want to have only one person bid on it because I set it too high, but at the same time I don't want to try short-changing myself just because I wanted to sell it. Could anyone help me please?

Auctioning an item is as simple as making a thread on the Item Marketplace forum. Here is the thread that details the rules for auctions.

As far as price, it depends on the item you're trying to sell and how in demand it is.

Okay, I thought so. I mean, I wasn't entirely sure though I did read the rules before. Thank you for replying.

As for the item in question, I have absolutely no idea if it's in demand or not. A first anniversary avatar item is not what I'd go for honestly...
