Did not know what else to title this, so, yeah.
I used a genetic tester and the visible trait of the pet changed from green lettering to purple. Not only that, but the letters (II) changed to something else (IJ). Why did the gene letters change, and why did the trait name color change? Does this mean anything? Should I not have used the genetic test on the pet?

It would have changed from BLUE to purple, not green to purple
Blue = visible trait. Shows homozygous (two of the same letter) and is the only kind of trait info visible on untested pets.
Green = carried trait, no visible trait in the slot. These only show as empty trait slots on untested pets.
Purple = visible trait with a second, less-dominant trait's genetics. You cannot see if a trait has a hidden unless the pet is tested, but, as explained below, they can still pass the recessive gene down
Looking at your pets, I will assume you're talking about this zolnixi
her M1's genetics are visible Mystic Orbs, hidden Feathered Tail
If you go to the Generator and load up a species, you can see what letter correlates to what trait.
(eg, for zolnixi m1, A = tri tails, B = chow tail, C = stubby tail,
and zolnixi m2, A = talismans, B = bandana, C = leaf trappings etc,
Basically, pets have two 'genetics' slots for each trait, and have a 50/50 chance of passing either of the two down (regardless of if the pet is tested) (if it's a tested pet with a blue trait, then it has a 100% chance of passing on that trait's genetics, since both options are the same)
Slot one (the first letter) is the Dominant trait, slot two (second letter) is the recessive in cases where it isn't a homozygous/blue trait
N = nothing = most dominant
then dominance progresses down the alphabet, so A is dominant to everything except N
B is dominant to everything except N and A
C is dominant to everything except N, A and B
etc.
(basically, look at the generator again- what is higher on the dropdown list is dominant to the things below it in that list)

Oh wow, okay. The genes in this game go a lot more in depth than I thought they would. Thank you so much for the detailed description of how this works.
And yeah, I meant blue. Have green on my brain from a different game, so ended up typing green instead of blue lol My bad.
