Just read a walk-through and realised that one of the soldiers is going to have his leg caught in a trap. The last time there was a strength challenge (pushing that boulder out of the path) I failed. So, much strength do my Sylesties need to get past that? And if they don't have enough, will the guy die or something?

I don't know if that particular incident has a stat check (I have no memory of the incident in question), but if you wanted you could apply Lady's second prof point to Strength and you should probably be fine if you use her (because the next area has some puzzles where your pet needs about 200 in the stat without equipment factored in (without equips factored in due to reasons specific to that puzzle)- if you wanted you could also swap her to 2str just for that)

(also, remember to assign your team's new prof points, as it looks like you haven't done that yet!)

Thank you, both of you! Scathreoite, is there a way to increase her strength without points and can I just train a pet specifically for strength?

Yes, using equipment, though perhaps I didn't explain well enough. In the next zone (the forgotten tomb) you will at one point need a pet with 200+ str without equipment factored in... but, when I say 'equipment isn't factored in' it doesn't mean 'the pet cannot be wearing equipment', just that when it runs the check to see if the pet has a high enough stat it doesn't take the equips it's wearing into account. And that trait, the 'without equipment factored in' is also very much specific to that one puzzle in that one zone- all other things that need to run a stat check to decide if you succeed/fail do take equips into account)

And yes you absolutely can have pets that are just specifically set up for single specific stats- that's kind of the whole premise of Mission pets, after all, and in regions 1 and 2 you can easily swap pets on and off the party whenever you aren't in battle (and region 3 too save when you're in the lost grove) so it's easy enough

Don't worry, I understood what you meant. The pet can be wearing gear, but it won't be used to judge the stat in that particular puzzle. Got it. I took of the gear to judge her strength.

And I'll just train a pet for strength then. But I don't want to just train every single kind of pet possible 'just in case'. Are there any guides for that?

You might want to look into the guide for missions and mission pets? (and overall what species doesn't matter at all, and you can always look at pets for sale for pets with higher stats)

You can just hover over their active stat to see a breakdown of how much the pet is getting from where
so stats on the pet page are displayed like this:
"Intelligence: 773 (18 + 0)", which is "stat name: active stat (base stat + grove bonus)"

if you hover over the active stat (773 in this example- I'm just using the griffi linked in the mission guide as my example pet) it'll give you a hover-over popup breakdown of where the points are coming from
in this case
It will show like this:
[Base value: 18 + 0
From level: 70
From proficiency: 449
From items: 236]
