So I've been perusing the breeding guides on the forums, and wow you guys have put in a ton of work! They're very helpful. I'm hoping to go back and review some of the info again so I understand it better, it's a lot to take in lol.

However, my question has to do with color. Everything I've read is about genes, color isn't even mentioned. So if I find something I like as far as genes go, but the color is wrong, is it worth keeping? Should I breed for genes first and color later? Or wait until I get/can find/breed both? Assuming I'm not starting from essence generated pets, that is.

Depending on how far off the color of any particular gene is, I know it could take quite a while to get the color(s) I want. So ideally, I would want pets with the right color AND genes. But if I can't have both, what's the best route to take?

There are items that allow you to change the color of a pet (but they can be expensive especially if you're doing the whole pet) but there aren't any (with some very specific exceptions) that will allow you to put genes on a pet. So generally if you can only have one or the other, go with genes and fix the colors later.

If you're doing a 6vis, go with genes. You can always buy a pet dye later on if you want. And, the color of the female and male mix to make the offspring, so the colors probably aren't going to be ugly. There's a way to figure out the offspring colors, but I won't say it on here because some people like to figure it out by themselves.

So, yeah. I hope this helped!!!

Oh that's true, I forgot about dyes. So by the time I get the genes I want, I can save up enough to buy the dyes I guess. Yeah, that helps. Thanks!

Can I PM you about the colors? I think I know because of some of the things I read, but wanted to see if I'm right lol.

generally one goes for traits first, stats second, then once you have your final breeding pets with the traits and stats they want, they dye those, since it means you can just dye 2-4 pets rather than like. loads (obviously not as much of an issue with essence-based projects, more in the case of wilc-caught and dyed themes)

(If you wanted to know how colour inheritance works, see here, the very last section of the post)
