Traditional Pumpkin Carving Contest
The object of this contest is to carve your own real pumpkin!
This is the Traditional Carving Contest!
There is also a Digital Contest, which can be found here.
Rules
1. You must submit one entry of a carved pumpkin. If no pumpkin is available to you, you may use a vegetable or fruit alternative. However, no other types of carvings will be accepted.
2. You must provide a minimum of 3 separate pictures of your carving process along with your Username and the Date physically displayed somewhere in each picture. You may provide a lit/unlit version of your final entry. Here is an example of how this should look:
You do not need to post them in a grid like this. I just did this to save space.
A Player Guide on How to Upload Images
3. You must actually be the one to create your entry! While assistance is fine, you cannot simply have someone else carve for you and then claim credit. If you are tracing an image for your entry, you must have been the one to originally create that image (Unless what you are tracing is a Sylestia asset, such as our pets, avatars, monsters, etc)! The main point of this contest is to have fun and to get involved in something outside of the digital world. So just do your best and have fun. =) We want to see your creativity!
4.Please do not reserve posts. Only post when you are ready to submit an entry. If your entry is still ongoing, you may post early with the progress that you currently have and edit your post as you finish.
5.Please do not ping me unless you have a specific question or concern that I need to address. Thank you.
6. The due date for submitting your entry is by the posted end date in the 2020 Fall Festival Overview Thread, which will be posted once the 2020 Fall Festival begins.

Hi sorry to bother you but, does it have to be a pumpkin? Can I carve an apple or orange? Thanks!

Yay! Funny enough I just finished this pumpkin yesterday so great timing!
I started by carving a lid for my pumpkin and I scooped all the brains out using my hands and a salad spoon.
I drew my design on a piece of paper, it's not the style I usually use but I think it worked best for pumpkin carving. I also only drew the one wing then I mirrored it in illustrator and traced it so that they would be symmetrical. In order to get the design onto the pumpkin, I used a tack to poke small holes along the lines in order to create the pattern on my pumpkin.
Once I was done poking all of my holes (which took forever), I took off the paper and I was very pleased with how it was looking. I made an oopsie by the feet but you can't really tell so I decided to just ignore it. I was considering leaving it like this but I didn't like how it looked when you put a light inside so I decided to carve it out some more.
I carved out the pumpkin using a serrated kitchen knife with a fairly pliable tip. I carved out every other feather and hoped that it would look good because I've never carved a pumpkin before. I decided to forget about the smaller feathers on top and just carve whatever I thought would look good because those small details were too hard to carve.
And that's it! I put a couple of candles inside so it would be bright enough and I made a couple of minor adjustments. For my very first pumpkin carving, I am super proud of how it turned out. In retrospect I probably wouldnt have carved the head, it looks kind of funny having the whole body be positive space and then just the head is negative, but whatever. I also had some problems with one of the feathers so I ended up using a couple of toothpicks to hold everything together. Thankfully, you cant see them.
10/10 would carve again, it was super fun and I absolutely love the result. :)
