What is a theme pet and how do you get them? And what does it mean when someone says a theme pet is one of only like 13 or something? I know that means only 13 exist, but how do you go about getting those? I think a cave spider pet was one I saw called one of x amount.

a theme pet is a pet with a specific color scheme that also has a 'tag'. That tag tells the name of that particular color scheme. All pets with that particular tag will have colors close to particular hex codes for each slot, with certain exceptions. Sometimes someone will dye a theme different colors, and sometimes changes had been made to the species that meant that certain colors were changed (like the current nyte revamp, some themes might get color changes due to the shuffling of traits and potentially what colors the traits use.)
You can get themes in various ways. The most common/easiest way is during an event. Week of Love just ended, and you could get a themed pet for turning in 8 sets of hearts (and you could randomly get a themed pet sometimes from the hearts themselves) You could also buy some themed pets from the diamond shop. (I believe there is a nyte themed pet in the diamond shop right now). In each of the seasonal events there are usually two ways at least to obtain themed pets: 'growing' them, and finding them in the wild.
The harder way to obtain a theme is to capture on in the Lost grove, the themes there are very rare and very tough. That cave spider theme is, I believe, a lost grove pet, and that is why there are only 13 on site right now, because they are rare and hard to capture.
there is also the ability to get a 'purebred' theme which is simply a themed pet whose parents are both the same theme (with one except so far, there is a themed aeri who had to have two different themed aeris for parents, but that was part of a special event, and not the norm)
As to how to get them you can either get them from other users through the advanced search (you can search for pets for sale as well as any themed pet to see all the themed pets currently for sale.
Or you can wait until we have an event and then get themes that way.
Each theme is usually specific to a specific event, so week of love pets can't be obtained from the spring fest activities.

Themed pets are pets that have an official site coloursheme- such as the
Beach Sunset Luffox
Yuletide Waltz Kelpari
Forsaken Guardian Ny'vene
Every fest, each species gets a new Exclusive theme (theme that is won from fest battle or nurture boards, or made via the fest's pet growing mechanic), all wild species get a new Wild/ Zone theme (found wild in the fest zone), and some get new Majestic themes (themes that have one of that species' Restricted trait sets, and which are created solely by the fests' pet growing mechanic)*
The Exclusive and Zone themes spend two fest available (eg, released in fall fest 2019, then retire after fall fest 2020)
Some themes are released for Events (like the ones that were available for week of love) which were mostly themes that have been available for a few years during their respective events, with some new ones added in.
(*people who have their theme design(s) chosen in the Theme Design Contest can pick a 2v of any theme available during the fest their design was selected for (1v, if they pick a majestic theme)
There's also the Lost Grove themes, which are a LOT rarer, encounter-chance-wise. They can be found either in nests or wild in the Lost Grove, and the wild ones have much higher grove wild bonus stats than the equivalent rarity non-themed from the grove.
Cave Spider Ferrikki are one of these themes- and Ferrikki and Nephini have way lower base encounter rates than other species, so the chances of finding a themed one is that much lower (I believe some of the neph grove themes have no actual encountered members of the theme, and the only ones that exist are Prize ones, which do not have the Wild Bonus stats)

Thank you both for the answers. Can I use the perfume things only during event festivals? Or can they be used for things like the cave spider pet?

There are two kinds of Perfume- Perfume of Themed Attraction , which only work in the seasonal festival Zones. They last for 20 battles, and count all battles.
the other is Perfume of Themed Attraction (Lost Grove) , which is only active in the Lost Grove. It lasts for 60 battles, and only counts down when you encounter wild sylesti, rather than any enemies like the non-LG version does. This is due to the huge disparity in rarities- Wild sylesti in general make up a smaller percentage of encounters in the Grove (it starts off very low in early stages and increases as you complete the tasks and move on to later stages), and the percentage chance of Themed encounters is way, way lower.
(The Lost Grove is the lv60+ zone (really, it's a lv65+ area) and is split into two subsections- the Forest and Caves. The Forest is the only area you have access to initially once you reach the Grove, and you have to get through the first 6? 7? stages of progression to gain access to the Caves.
Both sections have two sets of themes each (for a total of four LG themes for all species available in the grove), and the Cave Spider Ferrikki is one of the Cave themes (you can see a list of the Forest themes here and the Cave themes here if you want to see them))
So basically, two types of perfume, one for Seasonal Festival Zones, and one for the Lost Grove, neither works in any other area than their specified one.
