I've been on Sylestia for almost three years now, and I've started about 7-8 breeding projects, but I haven't been able to finish a single one. I want to be sure I'm breeding the right pets for the most efficient results. I'd love for someone to mentor me/walk me through an entire project, but I understand people are busy and may not have time for that.
Other than that, I'd love some helpful tips and tricks from others :D

Edit: I have tried the popular breeding guide on Sylestia, and while it's wonderful, it's hard for me (a person with ADHD and Dyslexia to follow

I'd recommend Xavi's 6-Vis Breeding Guide! It has a lot of good information on it on how to go about doing any sort of pet project.

Here is the link to the guide! I hope this helps some! :)

Tysm!
I have attempted to use the guide in the past, and it hasn't helped much, but I suppose another shot wouldn't hurt :D

If you have issues with the guide here are a few tips and tricks you can use to make your project easier :

1. You rarely nead more then 3 males at the time, they take space and since you dont have cooldown for them it's kind of useless to have more. This will allow you to be alot more selective of your pets since only the best (most traits and/or most visible and/or highest stat) pets will be keept. It is ok to have your some of your females laging behind a bit (3 tp at max).

2. Give code names to each offspring that allow you to see the offspring genetic without checking it's profil by exemple :

OOn g1G2g3 m2tM3

OOn = parents code
g1 = right gene 1 carried
G2 = right gene 2 visible
g3 = right gene 3 caried
m2 = right mutation 2 carried
tM3 = mutation 3 to trade for restricted visible

This give you an idea of witch pets would be compatibles and also allow you to pick the right females to have a better outcome. ^-^

3. When you do get a perfect offspring, releass both of it's parents immediately. It may seem counterproductive but since pets cannot breed when closely related it save you from getting an unbreedable pair in the end.

4. if you decide to stat, take care of the traits first as doing both at the same time may result in loosing traits.

well, I'd say,

step 1, decide your goal pet.
Are you looking to do stats?
What traits and colours; Are you aiming for a PB of a theme? Could you use a pre-existing theme's colours as a base for the final outcome? Or would you want to do something completely different?

Step 2, with that in mind: How are you going to start- if it's a Theme project, or will use a theme's colours as base, you need to get pets of that theme which have the correct traits.
If you plan to just dye for the final colours, you just need to obtain pets that have the right traits (or you can use Essences to make them)

step 2.5, if you plan to do stats, the general consensus is to wait until you've got all your traits locked in before doing them, so you don't go using philters on offspring that may have lacking traits in some way, and thus be failbabies

2.5.5, if you want to do SuperMaxes, wait until you have the Maxes first, then cross in your lg pet with the maxes. It's very RNG to get the good stat rolls, but you want as few generations between the LG pet and the final outcome pets to have as little bonus stat degradation as possible.

step 3, have a stable or two set aside for the project

step 4, it'll probably also help if you name the pets you'll be using to breed in a way that is clear to you, so you can always be sure you're breeding the right ones. Most people doing intense project breeding use names that indicate 'this individual has x, y, and z traits'.

step 5, consider if it would help to have a document set up to keep track of the pets
Here's a screenshot of the document I used when I was doing my nytes (I made life complicated for myself by not naming mine, and just telling who was who via pet id/spreadsheet combo). Records which pet, who their parents were, what generation of the project (I wasn't doing any back-crossing to fix traits), pet gender, and vis and hidden traits (it was a 3v project, hence it only listing g1, g2, and m2 trait slots), along with recording potential crosses to see which ones would get the best chances on the traits I wanted.)

step 6 Make sure you know how trait (and stat, if statproject) genetics work. I'll assume you know, but can help if you need explanations.

step 7, check your supplies of: dyes, stat philters, magic pies, gender philters. You might not need all of them, but these are all common tools in a project player toolbelt
(and infertility kit, but if you've got one you've got one. If you don't intend to sell any, it's a moot point. If you don't have one but do want to sell, you might want to either see about buying yours, or locating a friend who is willing to help infert any you need)

I guess the question is where are you getting hung up? Breeding projects take a decent amount of time and there can definitely be times when it feels like they just are not moving forward. Part of the reason I have several going at once.

Don't be afraid to try different ways to organize your pets and overall project. I tried several times to use the trait as names, as mentioned above, before finally getting a clue and realizing it just did not work for me. My brain refused to see them as anything other than complete nonsense (silly brain) and I got tired of having to buy amnesia philters because I reversed traits in the name.

I play on a tablet, so spreadsheets don't really work since I can't have it in front of me at the same time. I ended up going to old fashion paper and pencil. I have a binder with all of my projects in it.

I use one tab of a stable per project. This fits on one page of paper and forces me to keep the best pets. It also keeps breeding one project from getting too overwhelming for me. I have made an exception for my current nephini project and I am using two tabs. This is mostly due to the long cool down times. The other thing to decide is if you want to breed all at once, then wait for cool down (what I do for the majority of my projects) or breed a few every day (what my nephini project is more like).

I do keep five males. I find that works for me, especially at the start of a project when I don't have many traits on each pet. I can have a different mix of traits on the five boys. Plus, I am less likely to run into being unable to breed a female due to them being related.

Here is an example of a project I am currently working on:

Hope that makes sense and helps in some way. Lol

Thanks, this is super helpful!
I didn't realize that having fewer males would make the project easier, but it makes sense :D
I'll definitely use this in the future, thank you so much!

Sorry for the bother, but for some reason I cant breed two of my monsters- I think it might be because one is in a party but I am unsure, if that is the case, how do you take out a member from the party?

Thank you for your time ^^
