Been just lookin around and admiring other pets and stuff and noticed some people have these project pets? Are these pets based off of designs they made in that pet generator things? If so how does one proceed in starting one? Ive been playing around in the generator and made some designs I would like to have as pets but dont have essence or whatever to make them.
Would I just try and find pets that have similar colors and accessories and just breed them till I get what I had similar to the generator?

A breeding project is basicly a goal to achieve, as sutch there are multipe kind of projects :

Personal projects (like the one Zolnixi had in their post) are usualy more cost effective to be generated as it is alot less pricy to buy 3 essences then to buy 24 + dyes. However, restricted traits often require dyes to be added to this kind of projects. Regenerated pair can also fall into this category to some extent.

Themmed projects, for those you nead pets from the actual themme, copying a themme that already exist as an essence project is not realy well accepted, there are a few exceptions but this would not be seen as a themme project then. For this kind of project the items you may nead the most are mutators and potentialy disruptors.

Stat projects, usualy this kind of project is an added part to somthing as players wont be too interessed in a no traits / muddy color max/super stat. For those you usualy 30 to 50 prisma philters, nurriture boost as well as an access to an unfertility kit to prevent damaging other's stat projects by selling offspring fertils.

Of course any and all projects require time, and a testing kit, but some players offer free testing/infertility so in most cases once the project is started all the player have to remember is to name the wanted offspring and not forget about breeding the adults every 2 weaks to 1 month (depending of the luck you get with the last generation). ^-^

There is also the way I do it, usually I start by buying 1 or 2 pets (Goes for my Shadow and Seaweed pair) and I figure out their genes and what I can get from them. If you need me to explain more you can just ask <3

really it depends on the kind of project

If it's a themed project, you'll need to obtain pets of that theme with the traits you want (possibly requiring greater mutators)
unthemed ones are made by the person doing the project, coming up with a design they like in the generator as a template for the desired outcome. You'll generally need essences or wild pets (if you have the dye supplies for the final pair once they have all the traits fixed). (or you could start with a theme if your final outcome isn't that far off from a theme colour-wise/only needs a few slots changed because you're not doing a 6v project. My own first project was a 3v that was based on a couple of changes to the Sunbather Gazania nyte) (Regen pets are also possible to use, if you have them)

if it's a stat project with no mind to the traits or colours you can just go for it with the prismas, but if they do matter then you want to get the traits done in before you really start with the stats to avoid prisma wastage.

supplies for projects:
> A stable freed up for the project

> Access to an infinite genetest kit (either your own or a person who is willing to test all your pets for you, but easier and faster to own it yourself)

> an infertility kit (if you plan to sell the finalised design)

> Prisma philters (if it's a stat project)

> Gender swap philters (for if you get a good pet for the project that just happens to be the wrong gender)

> Magical Pies (to speed up adolescence- not necessary but good to have on hand sometimes)

> scales (mostly for if you want to nurture boost pets, either to speed up growth or for the potential stat boosts or both)

> Time and patience (Projects can take a LONG time, and sometimes RNG just hates you)
Amnesia philters (if you're going to name project pets so you can find them/easily identify what traits they have, you might want these on hand in case of typos)

I know this is a bit late, but for me, the majority of my 6vis projects are from regen pets (heh). I buy a bunch of regen pets with good traits and then points, Design on the generator, then choose a design and use it!

Regen projects are not the same as breeding projects, witch is why i hadn't brough it up earlyer. Those are closer to using essences to generate what is call a breeding pair (2 pets from opposite gender with matching coloring and traits). It's not a bad thing, nothing wrong with those type of projects, it just dosnt apply to the question asked. ^-^'
