I love how they look in general. My only thing as I am sure someone has already mentioned, is that they look way to much like a Hippocampus instead of the Kelpie's that I think they are based on (Going by the fact they are called Kelpari). Other then that I find them rather beautiful. I also agree that the youngins look a little to cute but then again I kinda like it xD

They look great! The only thing I would "complain" about is the tail placement on both of the adults. It looks weird placed between the wings and under the body. That's just my opinion though. Like I said, other than the tail thing, they look great.

i LIKE the new Kelpari look... the feet they have now have always bothered me...
im not tooo sure on the wings though... i LIKE the aspect of it but i think they should be able to be removed...
Most wings hide a lot of the traits and mutations which i think is a shame.
I like the looks of Hippocampus which is what i think when i look at the Kelpari
the poses remind me of neopets Pheophin's

Wow, so quick after the morkko with a preview!
Such a big change, but looks really promising. I've been nervously awaiting this post but they look really good so far. Can't wait to see the finished project, and all the new mutations and gene possibilities!
I'm iffy on the wings though, they look great and all but i tend to not like wings on a lot of pets. Perhaps a mutation where the wings are instead smaller fins? Oh, and armor please! :D

First off, THE NEW ART LOOKS AMAZING! I love a lot of things about the new design, and feel like it captures how majestic I feel the Kelpari should be. I have a few aesthetic criticisms to make, and most are concerns brought up by other users, but I felt like I wanted to expand on them with my thoughts.
The front legs no longer seem unique. As some commenters have already pointed out, these new hooves look a lot like those of the Qitari. One of the features I will miss most about the old design is definitely the webbed front feet. I feel like these two design elements could even be merged -- combining the hairy fetlocks of the male with a webbed foot could actually look really cool if done correctly, and a slightly less pronounced/hairy version would look cute on the females. Regardless, I think the female's hooves should be a little bit wider. They're just a tad too delicate right now when compared to the male, and don't look practical for moving along the silty, sandy floor of a lake.
There's just too much "fin" going on. With the addition of the wings (which I realize will be translucent, as Faiona mentioned) and the enlargement of the body fins, the image space becomes rather busy. It makes me worry how other design elements, especially mutations, will fit into the new designs without getting too busy. Maybe this will seem less of an issue once shading is added, though. Getting rid of the second set of small fins on the tail could help with this. Otherwise, I can see how eliminating the wing altogether and enlarging the back fins could fill the same function while keeping the image from getting to overwhelmed, or blocking the body. Plus, although the base design wings would be see-through, what about wing mutations? Unless they're all see-through, the wings will become a problem for viewing body genes.
A few nitpicky things:
- The male's right leg (his right, not ours) looks awkward above the "elbow" portion to where it joins the body. Something about the angle makes it look too short and strangely shaped.
- The female's muzzle looks weirdly spherical. It should be shaped with more of an angle to the front of it, like the male's. The smile is a little weirdly curved upward, as well.
- The almost 90 degree angle with which the female's neck joins the body is strange looking. It should taper more gently into the body, just as the neck of an actual horse does.
- The back of the female's body as it goes into the tail is too skinny looking. Maybe it's just an illusion created by the attachment points of the wings and fins, but it seems too tiny relative to the size and projected tapering of the front of the body.
Also, I just want to put my support behind and boost the signal on Nero's excellent suggestion, quoted below:
I personally really like the idea of a merhorse; however, to appease those who miss their hindlegs, perhaps include a mutation similar to the Quad Arms on Ny'vene?
Having a mutation to give them back legs again, similar to the quad arms mutation for Ny'Venes would be wonderful. I feel like I will miss the back legs, and would love for this to not be totally lost in the redesign.
