Okok, so I'm trying out breeding a bit and I feel like I have a very shaky handle on things, until weird stuff happens. I caught two event sylvorpas. The female has vis angler lights in the mutation 3 slot, and the male has absolutely nothing in the mutation 3 slot. However, they've had two babies so far and both are carrying seashells.
...why?

I feel like I'm missing something, but I have no idea what the issue is. ;o; I want angler lights, not seashells. /depression

The mother carries seashells underneath her visible Angler Lights.
This is the mother's code:
http://www.sylestia.com/imagebuilder.php?species=sylvorpa&breed=sylesti&gender=female&gd1=NN&gd2=NN&gd3=NE&md1=NA&md2=NN&
md3=BC&ec=ecff4c&c1=050742&c2=e07724&c3=101133&gd1c=ecbd70&
gd2c=ecf4ba&gd3c=efeef1&md1c=ef8129&md2c=e27723&md3c=dd6b1a&maturity=648&size=250
This is one of her babies codes:
http://www.sylestia.com/imagebuilder.php?species=sylvorpa&breed=sylesti&gender=female&gd1=NN&gd2=NG&gd3=NN&md1=NN&md2=NB&
md3=NC&ec=e8fa41&c1=0b0a3e&c2=e57929&c3=050438&gd1c=f6bc6f&
gd2c=e5ecbc&gd3c=f2f0f0&md1c=e57a26&md2c=e27f26&md3c=e77826&maturity=149&size=250
If you look at the highlighted portion, N represents nothing visible/nothing carried, B represents Angler Lights, and C represents Seashells.
The mother's md3=BC means that she is showing Angler Lights, but is still carrying Seashells. The baby's md3=NC means that she shows nothing, has dropped the Angler Lights and only carries Seashells.

Oh geez, thank you so much. ~_~ That's frustrating, I guess I'll just keep breeding until I get the angler lights.

I have a question about breeding, and I'm hoping someone can help. Is it correct that if you breed two pets who each have a different visible trait in the same slot, that one of those traits would always be visible?
Like say for example that pet 1 has ornate spangles vis, and pet 2 has regal markings vis, and both of those traits occupy slot 1. Then would the offspring always have either spangles or regal markings vis?
I hope that made sense. Thanks for any help.

My question is in regards to stats....
Does it matter what the original parents stats are at each time before they breed again...I'm trying to improve the stats of the offspring, particularly the strength stats and want to be sure of the best methods before I get started. And am wondering if it is a good idea to give each pet experience as much as possible before breeding the next offspring, especially since I'm trying for specific traits, even if its not to the pet I want to have it.
For example,
Female, 1st Breeding Time Second Breeding Time
9 12
9 12
18 22
17 24
16 17
15 16
Male, Stays the same both times
9
9
18
17
16
15
Does this affect the offspring? Or can I just train, explore with the pets....Or does it even matter if I'm going to be using philters either way.
The draeyl from this stable are the pets for the project. The first row are the first group, for the first set of parents and the second is for the second set. I've been asked to do two sets... Hopefully it won't take to long and I can cross-breed a third set (or a 2vis pair).

Advice appreciated.
Nevermind my question got answered.

What would you suggest starting out with to breed a 4vis if a 4carry x 4carry has such a low success rate? I was hoping I could use 8 regular essences to breed up two 4carries, but if it's going to take that long (since it's going to a while to get the 4carry in the first place) I might as well abandon that idea. xD I read the guide and am attempting to chart it out, but I'm pretty bad at math and I keep confusing myself. :( Now I'm researching how to do Punnett squares and so forth, but I was never that good at it to begin with. xD And like you said, when I look at it, the basic 4carry x 4carry would require, what, 256 squares...
So how do you increase the chances? Obviously I don't have access to 4vis if I'm trying to breed for them. xD But, using enhanced essences, what would be the best starting parents?

Ah, I was wondering how we mate two of our own sylesties? Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough but I can't seem to figure it out.

You have two of the same species one male and one female and they aren't related within 2 generations then you can breed them together. Of course they must be yours and they must be an adult to breed and then you go to the generator, to the breeding grounds and then select the two sylestis.
You can also breed with other people's pets if the user has them up for breeding. If they aren't you can ask the user if they'll open it. If and when you see a pet up for breeding and you have the same species of an opposite gender click on the person's pet and go to view prices and see if you can afford the price for breeding. If you can, select the pet you want on your side to breed and then hit breed.

I have a question. When you breed with other people's pets, who gets the egg? Is it the one who pays the other person? As in it doesn't matter if the I own a male or female so long as I find an opposite gender and pay for that breeding? I'm a bit lost seeing I've never bred before...
Clarification will be much appreciated. =)
