... Then maybe an outbreak of zombies? And then they shut the gates to the park and no one can get out?

For a sylestia themed comic I think this could be a bit hard. The reason i'm all for my carnival idea is that we could have a whole bunch of fun cute characters who, like you wanted a magic school, could be a magical carnival. We could also have them visit the cemeteries in the fairy place in Sylestia. The idea of a traveling carnival also makes it where each month doesn't have to be a continuation of a single story line. All months would be connected but we could have new adventures and scenery each month. A traveling carnival just offers a lot of freedom to what we're doing.

mmm, I was thinking of something like the Webtoon
"Boyfriend of the dead"
And I just feel like a carnival isn't very fun even if it is fun in real life. Like, are we just gonna do something like, they are on a roller coaster.... yay.
So maybe we should think of a more action filled plot?

I was thinking more like,,
"A colorful fun troop of clowns and acrobats are traveling across the lands of Sylestia. As they travel they meet many hardships and adventures as they meet new friends and dangers of all kinds. "
--
It would be more about their travels and they run into 'fun' dangers like say,,, "while exploring Esior's Havens field the troop come upon a lost Sylestia, can they get the sylestia home and still make it back in time for their show?"
--
So just a bunch of fun stories wrapped up each month of the troop getting themselves into some predicament or fun adventure and at the very end they always manage to get back barely in time to set up and have a great show.

After reviewing all comments here, I must say this carnival idea is rather excellent. Because it does offer more freedoms in backgrounds and such, but also because it's not your conventional carnival tale. It's not scary, there isn't some mystery going on, it's almost got a Percy Jackson thing going on. Saving the world or whatever at the last second. As long as I can have this psychic Sylvorpa character I have in mind now, I'm happy. I also would like to do character design and coloring.
Vigil, now that I think of it, a school would be pretty hard to accomplish with the short comic we are aiming for. We want it simple, but charming.

We are making it long term, but each month's release is only going to be about four panels. The carnival idea where the group of characters are exploring whatever area in and stumbling across a problem is a pretty easy thing to do with four panels at a time. With the school idea, four panels would be a class, and that can be boring. Again, simple, but charming.
