All of the others are asleep - though you see Shootingstar twitch slightly as you near.

Numbat turns, a smile on his face. "Fish would be fine! I take it hunting didn't prove to turn out well?"

You stumble over the loose gravel at the bottom, gaining you searing pain in your knees. It's all you can do to totter over to the cave and collapse just inside.

Shadows are dragging themselves across the riverbed; night is coming. At least you got here in time - there's no way you'll be able to move any more for the rest of tonight.

I ask him to get closer and squint at the wagons.

Knight's grin widens. "I know, you were pretty bad at it, weren't you?" he jokes, turning it on you.

He takes the fish again, peering at it. "I wasn't exactly sure which fish was a rainbow one, so I just got a few. We could look at them back at Malindi's place if you wanted. I sorta just thought, y'know, seen as you got me this..." he pats the dragon toy. "Plus the sword looked epic."

You fall into an uneasy sleep, but luckily the next morning you find yourself back to your old self again. You must have beaten the poison back in your sleep.

Sunlight filters into the cave, and the comforting-dry warmth is only the start of how hot it is outside. But the first thing you notice is that you left hoofprints last night in the soft riverbed. But that isn't the main problem - yours aren't the only tracks there. Large footprints, heavy and widely spaced, run all the way down the dried riverbed to the burbling river downstream.

"Yeah it totally did. You're right, we can check those fish out back at Malindi's." Niote agrees.
