Daniel's eyes narrowed. "You can read my thoughts?" He placed both hands on his head, covering most of it. "How about now?" he said, concentrating on the thought, 'mooooooooooooooooooooooo...' and he kept it going for a good minute.

Monika laughed.

"You're so funny," she said, " I see why people like you. Yes, I can, but I'm trying not to." Monika got serious. "I'm trying not to." she said. "But I sometimes can' t control it."

"Oh, yeah," Daniel removed his hands from his head and easily made a ball of fire between them, then quickly extinguished it. "Like sometimes I can't control my fire. Sometimes I'm afraid I'll kill someone with it unless I get training which is part of the reason I'm looking for my uncle. You know," he said, dropping his voice, and leaning in a little, "I've only had the powers for a couple of years, and the most I've ever done is light a campfire. And make fireballs. But," he leaned back, "sometimes it's hard to put those out. It's like the fire wants to come out, when I don't want it to."

Monika smiled. She could relate to Daniel, even if their powers were different.

"I hope you find your uncle soon." she said.

Daniel spread his hands. "He's not exactly my uncle, I was adopted. But my biggest problem finding him will be that we've never met. He probably doesn't even know I exist, and if he's anything like Barn, he won't believe me when I tell him what's happened. No-nonsense type, you know?"
