Hi, I got to ask. I just need some things clarified.

How do I submit for the contest?
Is it a drawing or is it a generator design?

I hope these aren't dumb questions. Forgive me if they are...I have Autism, so it's little difficult for me to understand some things.

if you look at the first post of this thread you will find the rules for the design contest.

the first rule sayes to Navigate to the Generator, so themed designs are generator made, if you would be wanting to do pet traits or avi items it would be drawing but those things have there own threads when we get contests for them^^

You go to the generator and pick out a set of colors for the species you are working on (themes are a set of colors only, not the traits)
When you are satisfied with your choices pick some traits to show off your theme colors then copy the link of the image in the generator and paste it between img tags (add &size=250 to the end of the link inside the tags - you can use the img button to generate the tags)

You can submit one theme for each species.

The color sets must be your own work (from wild pets you've caught is fine but usually they are a bit wonky and need tweaked), you can look in the themed pet codex (at the bottom of the explore menu) to see what themes already exist for each species of pet.

Generally people usually put a name for their theme and then an example male and female for each species, with different traits on each. I personally do one with a restricted trait set and then one with 3 or 6 visible traits for each species, one male, one female. You can scroll through the thread to see how other people are showcasing if you want.
