If you're paying to breed with another person's pet, you get the eggling. :3 The seller only gets the gold.

I'm, kinda of really new, and trying to get my bearings when it comes to things like breeding.
I had a question about the guide. I don't think I've seen it asked yet.
I apologize if I've overlooked it.
Basically, in the first example, shouldn't all babies be Lucybobs?
If the mother carries gene A on both allele, how could she end up passing a "nothing" gene instead?
Same for the father and his genes.
Is it possible for Sylesties to not pass on anything for, let's say Gene1, despite them having a visible Gene1? (Hence both the Sylesti's alleles for Gene1 should be occupied/not have a nothing gene in there.)
I'm curious if I'm making a mistake in my logic somewhere, or if I'm depending too much on the last breeding game system I worked with.

I'm not sure if it's a bug or something, but I bred two Nephini with Gene 2 AE and Gene 2 BC respectively, and wound up with a baby with Gene 2 BB. Seems impossible to me! I am using the advanced pet search. using my user # and selecting Nephini as species in order to view them. My user # is 21605.

I'm not too sure what the guide said exactly, but if both parents are visible for the same genetic trait slot, the baby should be a visible for said genetic trait slot. If the parent is visible in any gene/mutation, something in that slot will be passed on to the kids.
If it doesn't happen, it would be best to make a thread in the bug forum and inform Krin about it.

Your Nephini baby probably has Gene 2 BE. It shows Gene 2 BB because the baby is not genetically tested, so it only shows the visible traits. Since the visible trait is Butterfly, it shows a BB there. Once your pet is tested, it will show all hidden carries, and the Gene 2 should show BE instead.
If you need to test your pet, there are a number of people offering free services in this forum.

Okay thanks! So the gene info on the pet search isn't necessarily accurate unless the pet has been tested.... good to know.

Yep! If not there's not much point to testing pets =P
And you're welcome. ^-^

I'm wondering if there's a way to breed pets for higher base stats. If so, how would I go about it beyond using filters or allowing the pet to hatch itself.
(If not then I feel that that would be a good addition to the breeding system at a later point.)

You can increase pets' base stats either by philtering or nurturing.
Since you've ruled out the obvious and fastest way to increase base stat, the other way to increase stat is by getting it a lot of nurtures. Also, when hatching an egg, it's better to do something to it than leave it alone. Clicking "help break egg" would increase its base health, and clicking "let egg hatch" increases a random stat (strength, intelligence, dexterity, or agility). If you leave a ready-to-hatch egg for over 24 hours, it'll hatch on its own without any increase to base stats.
So other than philtering, helping the egg hatch and nurturing helps increase base stat at a really slow rate. I don't think there are other ways to increase base stat beside these three.
