Fur on a tail held as the male is holding his is slicked down more, held tighter to to the tailbone and a tail held in such a way indicates an animal that isn't happy...under attack, under threat, just got dominated by a higher ranking male...etc. Tails held that close to being under the body aren't supposed to be fluffed out. No lupine or canine would have the fur fluffed having it held in such a way. If anything, it's too fluffy for that position, since it's the last position before tail-tuckage.
The female has her's aloft, in a position that indicates she is relaxed and confident enough to allow her tail hair to air fill and fluff.
This isn't about the art, really, it's about body language on canids. Know what you're looking at before you start to nit-pick at it.
For the body language displayed here, both will do and the female, in particular, is excellent as regards her fur and carriage.

I like the new look, but they look relatively like the one we have now...........
While I 100% understand that Sylesties are not exactly the same as the creatures they are based on, I still appreciate nods to the muses of the creatures here. What really sets them apart from real animals is all of their genes and mutations anyways. That's where a Fox and a Zolnixi are no longer the same thing, so I personally don't see any harm in trying to incorporate a bit more of a foxes features into the art style.
As in Cloud's post, I personally find the adjustments to the head (ears, face, muzzle, blahblah) the most successful at changing what currently bugs me about the Zolnixi.
Agreeing with the top part of this comment. :) I honestly believe that admin interpretation, site interpretation, and user-interpretation of all pets are just what they are, interpretation, and NO ONE intends to hurt anyone when interpreting anything!
I also viewed zolnixis as some sort of hybrid to cater to fox lovers and wolf lovers, and what I like about them the most? The fantasy eyebrows lol. Which I can find from certain breeds of doggies!
As for all the art critiques...as a person with 0% affinity for art, anatomy, and zoology, I don't see anything wrong with anything (and could have been okay with just what the front part showed aha).
I can sorta understand the tail up-tail down argument for asserting behavior, but in the end, art's art, and could've fooled me!
I hope the artists and admins that are working hard to please people and set the zolnixi up for the future are happy with their decisions on the zolnixi, because it's a leap and bound different from what we have now, and I definitely think that their efforts to take in both suggestions by the crowd and keep certain things as is aren't without reason and take quite a bit of consideration. :)

Aw, why does the guy need to be sad? He matches his lady friend more with the old face.

I like the slimness of the new draw, makes them a little more foxy, but I agree with Deathdust on the male's lack of smirk. The smirk is what really, to me, makes the nixi so mischievous and feisty. ^.^
