I still prefer Skype over all of those chatrooms, but I understand why there needs to be a web-based alternative. Chatstep looks nice, Chatango seems to be alright too... Chatzy shows an error message for me. Etherpad isn't really... good at all. :P

I don't really have a preference, as long as there's an option for anonymity(online paranoia...), but etherpad seemed the best to me. My schedule is really weird, so I can't really say that, aside from about 1AM to 2PM ST, I'm definitely unavailable.

Judging by the looks of it, it seems Chat Tango(?) would be the best because I see a handful of people who would need the mobile version.

I've only really used Chatzy & Skype, though. Chatzy may cause problems for those on mobile (unless that's been fixed?) & I'm not certain everyone has Skype on here.

Sorry guys for the second ping, but Taptothebeat and I have been looking into Slack, which happens to be a way more convenient and experimentally fun web-based chatroom. I'm hopelessly in preference for it now that she guided me through using it aha.

General features:

-on one page, it allows any member of the group to create public or private group chats (called Channels), along with direct messaging another member in the group; I kinda intend to have at least one public group for public announcements, one for chitchat, and more if need be

-is mobile friendly! Along with being accessible on both computer browsers and mobile browsers, it has apps for Apple App Store and Google Play store, and can be installable on Mac and Windows it seems; you can load the logs of text from anywhere when you log in, and you can log in on multiple devices!

-Tap and I are testing out the kinks of integratable systems, including a reward system which can be used to give each member points towards rankings!

The main issue here is that there is a login system. How we will handle it is that Tap and I will create the start of the account (details soon to follow when the slack.com group is ready), then you guys on the other end will create the rest of the account. It's actually really easy, I promise! (I will most likely PM everyone how to start the account individually).

For those who want anonymity, you can customize your username to be different from how your account starts. The way the slack.com system is looking, it might be kind of inconvenient to be anonymous at first, in the case that I'd like to conduct most member-specific activities on slack.com alone (where giving points, for example, has to go to a specific person in a roster). But we'll see.
Although slack.com allows to change usernames (no more than twice per hour), I would prefer to keep the username on slack.com to be the same (or similar, unless there's two users with similar usernames) as the respective username that you have on Sylestia.

I'm sorry it probably sounds like a lot, but slack.com is looking like a very intuitive site where I can start integrating features in an enjoyable way without bringing together other 3rd party sites.

If anyone wants to get in now to help me test out the slack.com site, please PM me! Thank you. :)

Sounds good to me, but can we try and have this on a weekend? Being in the UK always makes an issue with timezones.... If we did a weekend it could be anywhere from noon to 5 pm in the North American timezones and still not be completely unreasonable for those of us overseas XD
