I feel the need to reply to this because about a year and a half ago I brought up a point about sexual dimorphism in the pets in the Zolnixi revamp thread.
Here is the first page and my post.
There were a few posts in between that were for/against it and then we have an official admin response from Faiona here.
They are not trying to stereotype genders, they are simply trying to keep the pets visually interesting and different and one of our admins prefers the females especially to be drawn with more obvious cartoon cues.
After some more discussion I clarified my point on this page.
There is no real life gender stereotyping going on here. I can understand wanting to have more variety in the type of male or female pets drawn, and for the species to match each other. But. There is no need to remove all sexual differences and or cartoon influences because they are doing nothing but providing some interesting contrast.
If there were pet species that looked completely different and could only have certain traits or colours or forced the pets to have different personalities based no gender or affected their in game stats? That. Would be gender stereotyping. Adding eyelashes/larger eyes to females and making them smaller, fluffier, and happier looking is just what it was claimed to be, a stylistic choice. I hope you don't feel like your ideas are being completely ignored, but I think perhaps you are reading too much into this. :)

My response to this may not be popular, but I will speak my mind. I am a married woman. I look different than my husband, I look different than my brothers, especially as a mom to be, and guess what, I am proud of that. I find nothing wrong with wearing dresses or jewelry or being different than men. Call me a stereotype if you want, but, I am not going to give up being feminine just because some people think that makes me a stereotype. If gender neutral people can be happy the way they want to be then the rest of us have a right to be happy being the way we are too. It is not fair to the rest of the world to do away with all gender differential just because a small few think no one should enjoy it. To be blunt when my daughter is born and I want to dress her in feminine, cute, or pink outfits I will do so regardless of what others like or think, they are not her mother, I am.
Personally I love the puffadore designs and all the other designs they have come up with I find them charming and imaginative. Being an artistic type myself I can appreciate the creativity that goes into the artwork. As with any art it is the choice of the artist that makes it art. Critics can determine what is popular in art, but true art is only determined by the artist behind the work. If the artist who created it likes it than that is all that matters. Krin and Fai work really hard on this site. I think the least we can do is appreciate their efforts, for without them there is no sylestia and none of us would have a site like this to be on. We do not have the right to try and force any member of the site, let alone the admins, to follow strictly our point of view. As a point I thought the original design for the morkko females was prettier, but I can respect Krin and Fai's decision to make them fiercer instead. Sylestia is their creation after all. If you want a site that has pets with no gender then you can put in the work and effort to make your own gaming site and people will have to respect your choices with how you develop it, and what you do with it.
I believe that all people should be treated equally, all people not just minorities. I do not try to force others into my opinions or my way of life, but in being able to respect others opinions, I expect mine to be shown that same respect. I do not appreciate someone trying to force me to live to their way of life and opinion. I enjoy having different male and female pets. Someone saying that should be taken away from me does make me more prone to defend it.
(Personally I find this a moot point as Krin and Fai have already given us gender swapping philters.) If you don't like a pets gender you are free to buy a philter and change that. Want only one design of puffadore you can switch them to either of the designs you chose. There are also the RPG forums. If you want to play a game with all your pets neutral gender then set up an RPG for it. There you and friends can play your way to your hearts content. No one is going to stop you from doing that. To be fair and equal we expect to not have other trying to stop us from enjoying having different gender and gender designs of pets. If Krin and Fai choose to give us those different designs that is their choice to make .
Now there is something that might work for those who want gender neutral pets, without taking away genders/gender designs for the rest of our pets. There could be a third design for the pets that could be accessed for pets with the philter of infertility, ( I would make the design optional however, as some people who use that philter like the male or female design of a certain pet.) That way you could have the option of gender neutral pets without taking away the designs for the rest of sylestia. It would take a long time to implement, just like any other new part of sylestia that is added, However, it might be a way to satisfy both parties without conflict. Though in the end its still up to Krin and Fai what they choose to do. After all their hard work we should respect their decisions and not critisize them for it.
