Thank you! That clears a lot of it up so far!
(I'd very much like a PB from you, if its not too much trouble!)

By alchemy I meant brewing from the festival things, sorry.

I'm guessing that gold star are more valuable than blue star? I was told that selling of pets isn't a typically viable way to make gold anymore and something about Releasers? but I don't understand why releasing pets would be seen as a detriment. Is making pets from scratch/catching them more worth my time than breeding if its not a themed pet? Or is it just personal preferences?

I think I'm ok on hearing about battling stuff now if the above questions aren't too lengthy to answer.

(What species would you like?)

Ah, the brewing? You have to explore in the festival to get catalysts, which you can then open and brew via Festival Brewing. There's more explained in the Fest Overview.

Gold stars are typically more valuable, yes ^^
Yes, the problem is that people are selling pets that should be more valuable and sold for more, for very low prices, which as you can see, brings the worth down. What we Releasers do is release low-priced pets in an attempt to bring the prices up, if that makes sense. However, this has been a very controversial topic recently and I'm done arguing with people in other threads, so I won't talk more about it unless you want me to lol. No offense.

Making them from scratch? You mean, with essences? People can make a lot of money out of breeding projects, but only if it's a carefully planned project with certain colors and looks. Breeding wild pets generally doesn't allow you to do so, and people usually will not buy wild-caught pets unless they have a lot of trait points (genes and mutations).

Battling. Hmm, I'd recommend your first two pets be shadow and air/fire. Air if you want to do good damage on a single target, or fire if you want to hit multiple targets at once. If you don't have enough gold to change your element, let me know ^^ Once you've done that, I'll give you more tips.

(Um Kelpari PB if possible? They're the pet that brought me here to begin with. I don't know whats appropriate to pick from, sorry!)

Ok, I didn't mean to touch a sore subject, I just saw it around a lot. I didn't find any way to buy pets from the trade broker? Is the only way to buy them by going top ppls profiles/stables?

And I've got my main pet as shadow and my second as air for battle. What else should I know for combat system?

(Here you go!)

Ah, don't worry, it's not a sore subject per se, it's just that I'm not sure I want to talk about it here in case someone sees it and starts an argument again. Hope I didn't sound rude or anything :P
Yes, the broker is only for items. But you can also find pets for sale through Advanced Search.

Hmm, well I'm guessing you're still in Viridian Meadows. Once you unlock the second area, the first thing want to do is unlock your third party slot. Put a pet there and give it light. Of course you can always try different elements once you get the hang of it and want to test things out, but this is what works best for me and it should work well for you.
But you're probably not there yet, so for now let's work with the two you have.
You are going to want to put your Shadow pet in the first slot and Air in the second slot. Why? Well, pets in the first slot are attacked more.
Shadow works best as a tank, meaning it is good for absorbing most of the damage so the other pet(s) in your party can do their own thing without being attacked as much.
Now, your Air pet should be a damage dealer (there's a name for that, but I forgot lol). It cannot heal itself, as Shadow can, but it does much more damage than Shadow. You will want it to take as little damage as possible since it cannot regain health itself. Air and Fire, the two damage dealers, should NEVER be used as tanks if you can avoid it. If they die, your party will do a lot less damage.
Your future Light pet is a support. Light can heal both itself and others, which makes it best to go in your second party slot, once you unlock all three. If you find that your Air pet keeps dying, you may consider switching it to Light - it may slow down your progress but it should be easier to stay alive :P Keep in mind that Light can be used as a tank but is less suitable, because it is your only means of healing your other pets that can't heal themselves.
Now onto Proficiencies.
Your Shadow tank pet should have its (currently) one proficiency in health, since it will take a lot of damage. Once you have more proficiency points, you may put one or two in Agility, so it can dodge attacks and thus lose health less often, but health should be your priority for now.
Meanwhile, your damage dealer should usually have proficiencies in strength or intelligence. What's the difference? Some elements deal Magical damage, while others deal Physical damage. Magical elements do damage with more Intelligence, while Physical uses Strength. (Think about how everything in the universe is composed of either matter or energy: energy - like light, fire, etc. will be Magical, while matter - water, plants, etc. - is Physical. Haha, just a real-world comparison.) So since you use Air, a Physical element, you should give it more Strength. The Proficiencies for Strength and Intelligence are put together and automatically add Strength if the pet is a Physical element, and Intelligence if the pet is a Magical element, so you don't have to worry about that yet, but keep it in mind for later! However, for now, since your damage pet is in the second slot rather than the third as it would be if you had a Light pet, I would suggest putting your proficiency point in Health for now so it doesn't die as easily.
Now for Equipment. Remember what I eaid earlier about Strength and Intelligence? Well, in order to make all your pets do the max amount of damage, give them equipment with the proper stats! Shadow is a Magical element, so do NOT give it equipment that is high in Strength - that will not do much. Instead, give it equipment with higher Intelligence. You should also aim for Agility and Health as with the proficiencies. Air, on the other hand, is Physical, so give your higher Strength equipment to it instead for the best outcome. Uere are the stats you want to be higher in, in order of priority:

Shadow (Magical) - Health, Agility
Light (Magical) - Health, Intelligence
Air (Physical) - Strength, Dexterity

And this is what the different stats do:
Intelligence - increases Magical Damage
Strength - increases Physical Damage
Agility - increases attack avoidance chance
Dexterity- increases accuracy (and maybe critical hit chance, not sure)

Do you get everything or want me to clarify anything? How am I doing at explaining things?

You're doing a great job!

I understood most of it, but um what is water attribute good for? Was it added so much later to the system it's just not useful or?

Also, is there a list of key commands for battle somewhere? Most of them show up in a way I've been able to infer (like E is only visible on the buttons in the event map but can be used in regular explore combat to end turn) so I'm wondering if theres a key that corresponds to each enemy or if I really have to click them every time while I've found a button command for literally everything else?
