"Wyverns mostly roam around at night, and we should be gone by then," he muses. "There's a lot you can get with gold, and few who will give you it for a favour. I think we should take the deal, but be quick and not risk being in the forest after nightfall."
"Alright, we'll get you those mushrooms," I say to the dwarf. I leave the stall and start heading to the ancient forest.

Numbat shrugs. "It depends on what you're trying to trap. I stick to snares, which you can make out of any thin, string-like material so long as you know what you're doing and it is strong enough to hold a small critter. Apart from that I don't really know, I just stick to the snares I know."
He takes something out of his pack and shows it to you. "I always bring along a few snares no matter where I go. In emergencies, you've got to be able to get yourself a supply of food. First things first, you find somewhere where animals frequently travel. Then I'll show you how to use it."
He gestures to the small wood between the foothills and the river. "You go in, I'll follow. It's a good test to see if you know what you would be looking for if you were on your own. It's fairly straight forward if you think about what signs a critter would leave behind on a path it frequently takes."

2 jars of black hair dye added to inventory
There are tins of food that you saw earlier, which will last longer and pack away easier, but are slightly heavier. They're designed in a way that you should be able to peel the thin metal lid from them without any bother.
2 tins of meat, 1 tin of stew, 1 tin of fruit added to inventory
As you make your way back to the rope ladder in the dim light, you trip on something that was poorly put away. The only noise is a small thump which would be impossible to hear outside, but now a tin of green paint has spilled across the floor behind you. There's nothing that can be done about it now, it will be a waste of time to try and clean it up. However it just means you've got until someone comes in the door before it's figured out that the goods have been tampered with.
You hastily climb up the ladder. Outside, Knight is padding from one foot to the other. When he sees you, he quickly helps you down to ground level.
"Let's get out of here, the guards will be round this side soon," he says.

"Yeah." he nods. Checking himself to make sure he himself doesn't have paint on his clothes becuase that's a dead giveaway.

He waves goodbye and wishes you good luck. You and Brazentalon head down the street again to the city gates. You have to wait in a line to be checked before you leave, but soon you are out on the Adventurer's Road with the ancient forest on either side.
"Left or right?" Brazentalon muses, looking at the trees that all look the same.

Asteria looks for trampled grass, brush, or prints in the snow as well as signs that an animal had fed there recently.

"Hmm..right. If I'm correct, we'll be closer to the northern territories than the southern territories. So it's more likely to encounter another elf or dwarf instead of an aggressive goblin or orc." I say. I take out my hatchet and try to cut arrows that lead back in the trees as we enter the forest.

You can vaguely make out a couple of splotches on your shoes, but with all of the dirt and grime from travelling it's difficult to make out unless you're looking for it.
"They'll notice me more than you," Knight says, already starting to move. "So long as I get home quickly you'll be fine. I'll just attract unwanted attention."
He speeds off, his footsteps light and quiet as he disappears from sight.

Most of the frost from this morning has melted by now, but after some searching you find a little trail where the grass has stopped growing so much as in other places.
Numbat looks pleased. "Well done! Now watch closely," he says, taking out a snare.
He takes you through the basics of setting it up, how you need to place it in different ways for the thing you're trying to catch and so on. By the time you've set up a couple you're fairly confident you could use snares if you absolutely had to.
Basic snare knowledge added to proficiencies
"Do you want me to take you through some more snares somewhere else or do you want to try it on your own?" he asks.
