Did you use a trap to catch the pet, or did you encounter the event. Because the quest requires you to encounter the event where they'll tell you that you "caught" the pet, without the need of traps.
If you've encountered the event, you'll need to go to the quest log and receive the reward to finish the quest. Have you done that?

You get to increase your party limit to 2 pets by going to the haven's plaza. When you've unlocked the next region, go to the sanctuary's plaza to increase the limit to 3 pets.
Will recommend you to read this guide to help with battling: https://www.sylestia.com/forums/?thread=11101
The main thing to note is that you should choose between strength and intelligence. If you add points to one, don't add any points to the other. Your pet can only deal one type of damage, so any points added to the other type would be wasted. In the same way, when choosing a proficiency tree, choose one that matches your stat profile.
When choosing equipment, use those that add more to the stats you've chosen, instead of those that splits points between both strength/intelligence, or all 4 stats. For relics, choose those that give more physical damage bonus (if you chose strength), or magical damage bonus (if you chose intelligence), instead of those that split between both.
If you do this, your pets will be more efficient in battles.
For pet aging, it depends on what stage the pet started with when it was created. For starter pets, they should take about 18 days.
To know an accurate time, you'll need your pet to be genetically tested. (There are players in the breeding forum who offer free testing services). Copy the pet's url, and at the end of the link, there will be a &maturity=__. That number there would be the pet's maturity in hours. So when the pet reaches 72 hours, they will become hatchlings; 216 hours to be adolescent; 648 hours to be adults.
When you find/catch pets in the wild, they can start off at any random number. So you'll need to test them to be sure.
Generated pets/ starter pets start off as adolescents, so they'll start at 216 hours. If you use magical pies on them, it'll add on 144 hours, which is 6 days.
For bred pets, they'll start at 0 hours, unless you have referral points that you've put into increase the egg incubation. For eggs, you can tell their maturity by looking at the bar near the bottom of their page profile. There will be a __/72, which is the hours of maturity out of 72. Also, for every 5 nurture clicks for an egg will add an hour, while every 2 page views for hatchlings will add an hour.

You will need to spend 5 points before the new ability is unlocked. So choose the proficiency tree you want, click on the health/stats to spend the points, then when you have spent the 5 points, you'll be able to use the new ability in battles.

You can't trade gold with another player directly. If you want to give gold to another player, they will have to send you an item like a mushroom, with a CoD of the amount you want. Then you'll receive the item in your trade, and you accept the item, "paying" them the CoD when you do so.
So if you are receiving gold, you are the one sending the item.
To send items, go to your inventory, select the item (usually something tradable of low value), and click the little envelope under the inventory tab. There will be a popup, where you enter the player's name, and the amount you want them to pay for it.
(If you're gifting the item, just leave the CoD as 0).

I also have a question, which involves the forums. How do you make a link clickable?
