All of the elements, including water, are useful for different purposes, it's just that the Shadow-Light-Air setup is the easiest to start with. Like I said, later you can play around with different elements as well. Water, I believe, is a support like Light, but if focuses on stopping pets from taking damage rather than healing. If you want, I suppose you can try Water instead when you get your third slot.
Yes, sadly I think you have to click your enemy and there's no button for it. But I might be wrong.
The fest zone is also a great way to level up. And if you can, find another pet that you like, attune it to Light/Water and you can swap it out for you Air pet so you can test it and get the hang of how it works.

Okay, thank you again!

I think I'm ok with the combat stuff for now.

So for items, is there a benefit to using the sell feature on cheap/common items/equips or should I be putting everything tradable into the trade broker? And should I sell non tradable equipment when they're no longer useful to me? The temptation to liquidate all my really low grade extra equipment is there, but I'm not sure if it would be a good idea or not.

I believe that the trade broker incurs fees to the seller when used, so unless you can sell something for a decent bit higher on the broker than you can using the sell feature in your inventory, I'd suggest not using the broker. But some things don't give you any money when sold using your inventory sell feature.

If they are no longer useful to you and far below your level, yes, sell them. It gives you a little extra gold as well, and you can always get more equipment through battling.

How are you doing with the storyline, are you having trouble on anything?

Going through Troll Cavern, the actual cave part, it seems endless. Pets are unconscious, so I'm just doing a lot of waiting.

Ah, that's good. Don't ever use the town healers :P
If you have spare gold, buy some elixirs and revival draughts, and once you get to Umbra Forest, I'll give you some mission pets.
Hmm, it might be good to have some backup pets so you don't have to wait if your main ones get unconscious.

Thank you!

I have some caught pets I could use for battle, but I prefer waiting rather than having to respec two sets of pets with equipment. I know it technically isn't that big a deal to switch some stuff, but I just don't want the stress of trying to remember what went where.

Ah, that's fine then. When you get more equipment from battles, it might be a good idea to keep ones that are appropriate for another team then, so you don't have to switch equipment back and forth. But if it's too low level for you, it's not worth it. And eventually you'll replace your equipment for better ones.
