Aris bowed her head as they walked. "I'm sorry," she said softly and solemnly. But the information was important, as it possibly meant that anything friendly was gone, and that there was possibly a reason why that would mean bad news for her and Atropos.

Atropos walked beside Aris silently, occasionally picking up seeds, moss, leaves, and large sturdy sticks and throwing them into the basket that was dragged along behind her. She wondered what was the tree at the top of the plateau and why it was so special.
