I live in Southern Arizona, and we don't really get a "winter". However, on a very rare occasion, we get a light dusting of snow (once every couple years or so. Born and raised here, and have only seen snow 5 times in 19.5 years. The mountains surrounding my city get snow all the time, but most people in the valley aren't equipped to drive the steep, icy roads to get there...) So, I decided to base my design on that. I made the merle look like patchy snow, and added a bit of yellow to the tribal to represent the yellow creosote bushes in the pic.
