This is a followup to my previous post on crunching numbers for Spooky Shop. I had some time this morning, so I decided to crunch a few more.

I've been watching the spooky shop, and on average (disclaimer: I did not catalogue this, this is a guesstimate) I'd say I say an epic task every 3 restocks. That's one epic task every three restocks. And when there's only 96 times a day that it'll be restocked (as I calculated yesterday), that's an average of 32 epic tasks in a day. So, only 32 players will get to complete an epic task in a day, out of the 5,000+ active players on the site.

Additionally, avatar items can't come out of rare tasks, only epic and legendary. So, if only 32 people a day are completing this task, and the avatar items themselves are only a chance of coming out of one, I'd guesstimate that there's only 5 avatar items being discovered a day. And, hey, the fest ends in a week, so that's about 40-45 avatar items discovered. Coveted items, that people would want. That's so, so, so damaging to item collectors. My suggestion here would be to make the avatar items available for rare tasks but a low chance - or make epic/legendary tasks more common.

I can't securely make a guess at how often I saw a legendary task. I do know that I was checking the shop periodically throughout the day - at least 20-30 times - and I saw only 2 or 3 legendaries. Which, I get that those should be harder to get, but if we only see one every 10 restocks, that's only 9-10 players a day that will be able to claim one. Again, out of 5,000 active players, a easily a thousand that plays every day.

Changing the topic slightly, I find this game to be very unfair, personally, because of the competition. It's not a competition of skill or time, like the contests, but one of 'who has a fast internet connection, good reflexes, and wealth?', which is highly exclusive to many players.

On top of that, the number of times in which you have to try, to hound the shop every fifteen minutes for the chance of completing your one epic and one legendary tasks is ridiculous. I mean, people have jobs. They have school.

The state-wide competition for very, very few resources is so incredibly exclusive that it's barring thousands of players from having a shot. I get that there are some changes you can't make this fest because we're so close to the end and, hey, you've got a lot going on with Black Friday, Advent Calendar, and then Winter Fest coming up.

I'm just suggesting you do what you can, if possible, to make this new feature with a wonderful concept enjoyable for the majority of the site.

Krin, am I missing something, or is there a way to get Fluffy Truffles when you're not on the fluffy truffle quest? I see that one of the Spooky shop task asks for a bunch of them, but I'm pretty sure I only ever saw them on the quest to collect five? Maybe I'm not remembering the early areas correctly though XD

There is not, no.

Instead of just hand picking dozens of item ID #'s, I instead just have the script run some parameters and make its own list. It looks like the Fluffy Truffles, which should be a Quest Item, are marked as an actual Potion. I can't just switch it over to a Quest Item because then that Quest will just be awarding Players an item that they can't do anything with but look at. So, unfortunately, without reworking the original Quest, I can't really solve this issue atm.

The daily amount of players is a better metric to run by for this. Atm, we are averaging about 800.

I did end up changing the restock time from 15 minute intervals to 30 minute intervals and then it now just fully attempts to restock the entire shop per interval. This should make it less demanding on players to keep track of it while not affecting # of chances at all.

Additionally, I reduced the expiration time from 90 minutes to 60 minutes. This will cycle unwanted offers out of the shop faster.

I also increased the chances of obtaining the 2 exclusive Avatar Items at the sacrifice of removing Diamonds from the Legendary reward pool.


All in all, my hands are kind of tied on this until I have sufficient time to properly code the reward system. I had to cut corners and hand code the entire reward system. Changing anything is not only a pain to do so, but then causes a ripple effect and directly affects everything else. Most of the high-tier prizes were set in such a way to only award so many per day to the playerbase. Changing other variables directly affects this.

Until I can recode the reward system properly, there just isn't much that I'm really wanting to do because it will set certain things beyond what my intentions were. I most likely will not have time to recode the reward system until the feature's next iteration.

Krin, would it be possible for grove items to potentially go to your inventory instead somehow? Or to at least temporarily expand the limits in the Barracks? I'm thinking the enigmatic shard I got went poof since I'm maxed out on them? I spent I think something like 140k for something that went poof.

Edit: I guess I should tell myself that I spent 140k for a chance at something good but it's just painful since it's happened a few times now where I'll get a barracks item that I'm maxed on already.

Unfortunately, no. Lost Grove Materials aren't items and I don't have a way to really make them items. They are entirely their own system completely separate of the Item/Inventory systems.

My best suggestion would be to just try and spend some of the materials that you are capped out on so that if you obtain more, it won't be wasted to the cap.

As I've tried to stress, the Quest/Reward set up atm is very rudimentary. I had to cut a lot of corners in order to squeeze this feature in. But I had promised Fai I would so I had to keep my promise. =P

I 100% promise that it will undergo a lot of improvements before its next iteration releases.

But, yes, your edited message is generally the notion. There are a couple rare/exclusive prizes for each tier that I imagine the majority of players are interested in. And it's kind of like a pseudo auction for each attempt at prizes. Sometimes you get really lucky, other times, not so much. It was intended to sort of work that way and be a bit of a gamble - hence the whole Brosilla roleplay. That said though, it definitely could be better.

I understand. I do want to stress that I do like the concept of it. It's very interesting and I'm looking forward to how it might be next year. I kinda want to imagine a bit broader carnival side thing to the fall fest with this as one of the attractions.

I got the title Brosilla's Minion yesterday for an epic reward, and then today again - since titles don't stack, is getting repeats of Brosilla's Minion//effectively not getting anything for epic tasks just a gamble that we need to keep in mind?
