So, appearently my dad was keeping MRE's in the garage since 2006.
For those of you who don't know, MRE Stands for Meals Ready to Eat. They're basically packs of food that folks in the military eat while out on the feild. They come with food that takes a long time to expire, heating packs (to warm the food), utensils, various drink mixes... Everything required for a full meal.
He brought them out today and had the FamilyTM try some of it, claiming that "This is what we'll be eating when the world ends." So, uh, here's my condensed oppinon on the food in these two 14-year-old MRE's.
Chili Mac- Not fantastic, but not bad at all.
Chocolate-chip cookies- Stale, but edible. I think they were Chips Ahoy?
Combos- Y'know, those pretzles with cheese in 'em? Not bad, a bit bland.
Rice, sausage, and beans- Smelled great, tasted surprisingly good.
Bread- It had the density of a brick. It wasn't bad though, tasted good with...
Peanut butter- I think it was either Jiff or Skippy? It tasted like it was fresh from the jar.
Skittles- They didn't taste 14 years old. I was impressed.
Crackers- Unsalted, but it tasted really good with peanut butter and...
Jalepeno/Cheddar dip- Oh. OH. This stuff? Legendary.
The heating packs didn't work so we just threw the rice and mac in a pot of boilding water.
I didn't try any of the beverages, but if you were curious, there was hot cocoa, tea, coffee, and orange energy-drink mix. The was also cream and sugar for the tea and coffee, and a couple squares if gum.
